After reading SHOP YOUR CLOSET, I immediately shopped my closet, discovering a brand new world of stress-free dressing. It didn't cost a dime and it's a super easy system to maintain. Six bags of clothing also found a good home at our local Christian charity.
Inspired and gung-ho to keep applying the learning to my home, I hit our cupboards and pantry next. What a difference! As a frugal mom, I tend to stock up and things get piled willy-nilly sometimes. Now, I can find everything at a glance. Our local food shelf received all the extras, and now, I have a separate box ready to be filled for the food pantry each month.
My latest improvement-shopping my sons' closet-ended today with a trip to Goodwill (chosen for their wide distribution of children's items,) where we delivered two bags full of gently used boys clothing, and 4 full boxes of toys along with a Little Tikes easel desk. My oldest son suggestion "we should give away some more to them (those in need.") He truly "got it" and as a mom, I feel proud. What better gift to give to our children than an appreciation for what they have and the desire to help others who are not so fortunate?
Gather has once again had a big impact on our family. The principles in SHOP YOUR CLOSET are so simple that even my little guys (5 and 7) can stick to the plan. Our stress level is going down (especially mine,) as our clutter disappears. And we all feel great about the charity donations.
I'm looking forward to the day when our entire house has been "shopped" and to having the kids help me with more give-a-ways. I'm thinking we'll it make a bi-yearly event!
