Veneer from Jose Gonzalez Doesn't it just seem right? I know this hails from 2006 but sometimes * cough * I'm slow on the uptake, and his very short, very lovely little album is perfect for wrapping up against the weather. He could sing into an answering machine and I'd listen. Check out the in-studio for the sweetness or his live from SXSW appearance for the goods.
My better half has Brandi Carlile's self titled album set to "repeat" so I've heard it... several times. It has that coffeeshop classic quality. Here's the thing: It's actually pretty good. That said, I don't press play on my own. And now I'll stop before I dig myself into trouble.
The Musicheads turned me on to MGMT, and I'm playing the singles but I haven't camped out with the whole Oracular Spectacular. "Electric Feel" makes me want to rollerskate) or at least get the heck out of the house) and "Time to Pretend" is exactly what I needed to hear to balance out all the modern folk that's been unrolling from the speakers. You know there's no secret handshake, just tell everyone what you're listening to right now.

I've been turning on the radio and listening to Dig up the Roots on KFAI and Nick Spitzer's American Routes show. And yes, I turn down the sound for any Cajun tunes that happen to air. ;-)
I've also been touting Z-Plus, especially as he recently won the mnSpin music competition. I've an upcoming show on KFAI about him. I'll give you a head's-up when it airs.
gold thanks for the invite but this is a month long discussion...and this is not only a short month but I posted it late!
He's got a clear voice but a smoky delivery, Diana. Are you into a particular album or do you have an artist set?
*blinking* Really, Susan? *still blinking* You gave up Cajun Music for Lent?! How's that rolling for you? It will probably make your live music experiences even more electrifying. (Zing!) Please do give me a head's up on the Z-Plus show.
I've been consoling my poor self with lots of women singer/songwriters like Kasey Chambers, Brenda Weiler, Karen Savoca, and Iris Dement.
Also, Ray LaMontagne's "Till the Sun Turns Black", which came out in 06, so we're a little behind. He's got a very smooth, yet world-weary voice, but also manages to find some tunes with a great R&B groove.
And, as always, a smattering of the Pod shuffle or what I'm now calling "Frick's Potential Songs He Could Hear on the Bus If They Came Up In the Shuffle"

Such a cool list, Frick. Might have to crack out that Ray LaMontagne... his sound is sooo good. Roxy! Music! A six days' wonder indeed.
OTB, did they really play in that order? Are you a shufflin' or do you have some serious playlist action going on?
That Auntie, she's so good to you Zeldapie.

There are some amusing remixes on that page as well. Yes, amusing Rammstein remixes. I don't really care for remixes, but this one is pretty good:

...plus, I find it odd certain stations playing 'Love Is Free' even though it is a song about overconsumption and devestation.
