Take a trip back in time with the lovely voice of Deborah Cox, in this stunning tribute to the Queen of The Blues, Dinah Washington. Washington was best known for her extraordinary vocal talents - sharp diction and a sultry delivery. She was also a liberated woman in a time before bra-burning and the sexual revolution.
A platininum selling R&B singer, Cox delivers a solid tribute to one of her all-time favorite jazz artists. "I have been a fan of Dinah Washington since I was a little girl," Cox explains in the lyrics booklet of Destination Moon. "I think the two of us are similar in many ways. She was a voice for whatever story needed to be told through music, and it didn't matter what style or genre. Dinah was blues, R&B, gospel, pop and jazz music. I see myself in her."
Deborah Cox nods to the past, but brings a fresh perspective to these classic Dinah Washinton songs. The record is enjoyable from the first strands of Destination Moon to the last notes of Look to the Rainbow, and is sure to appeal to those who appreciate a strong female vocalist, solid orchestration, and some classic, well-written music.
Close your eyes and picture a smokey hideaway with a sultry singer backed by a jazzy orechestra while giving this album a whirl. This is a beautiful tribute to a talented singer who died way too young over fourty years ago.
