Hot licks on the licorice stick! Why doesn't the clarinet get more respect?

Just listen to Meyer conquers the clarinet's highs and lows and tell me if you don't marvel at Sabine Meyer's skill and the very sound and capabilities of the clarinet itself.

Why don't we hear more from the clarinet? Why don't people swoon for the clarinet? Can't the instrument get a little respect?

It's just not as sexy as the sax...You never hear stories of people setting the mood to Benny Goodman.

FYI, I am a proud former clarinetist... bass clarinet too! I was first chair and everything! *sigh*

Kerry I can always count on you to make a good point. That seems to be true - it certainly has a place of good standing in Klezmer, at least to my knowledge.

Not as cool as the sax, true, but not nearly as geeky as the bassoon. I have been going to the Orchestra for years and every time I hear a bassoon various questions like "Who invented this thing?" "Why is this sound necessary?" "How much did they bribe this composer to write for it?" cross my mind.
