I'm going to kill that freakin' cardinal. He sits in the tree just outside. I can see him out the window as I type. I hear him as wails out "tuuuuueee tuuuuueee twee twee twee" so loud you would think he was sitting on the window sill. Slowly I rise with my... slowly I get the camera... I turn the camera on.... I raise the camera to my eye and the buttmunchbird is gone!!!
I go out the back yard to take pictures, there s a bunny. I take pictures of the cute little bunny (I'll post them later). I then switch lens; add the macro filter and take pictures of some wild flowers (I'll post some of those later too). As I head toward the house I hear that devil-with-red feathers calling again. He's in a tree high up yet very visible.
I pretend to ignore him. I go into the house. I change lens once again. I step out onto the back porch. I'm too far away still. I walk half way across the yard. I take a picture of a sparrow (I think its a sparrow) in the spruce tree. I ascertain that I'm still not quite close enough for a good shot of the cardinal. He, of course, is teasing me with his song. I think maybe just a couple of more feet. I take one step ONE!!! and the winged demon is gone again.
He teases me every day!! every day he laughs at me as I dash around trying to get a good shot. That BIRD!!!!

LOL. He must be camera shy.
Are you sure it isn't a female -- they play coy like that. LOL
Oh, and the guys don't??? LOL
Heck no, they can't afford to. LOL
Bright Red... definately a guy...acts like a guy... all guy
too funny George
LOL---Cardinals are pretty!!
Must be a female -- guys are maybe handsome. lol
slip some tyenol pm into the birdseed! that'll slow him down.
lol that is just too funny
Next time Nancy get him with this and I'm sure he won't have a chance to fly away...
You are too funny!!
Never heard of a BUTTMUNCHBIRD before but now am dying to see what one looks like!! ;p
OH heck yeah!!
Give him some sunflower treats and put them were he is far enough away to feel safe yet close enough for you to get a photo.
That's funny
I'm sorry but I lost it at: buttmunchbird.
LMAO!
My mom puts out peanut hearts and sunflowers and hers lets her snap photos.:)
I have a redwing blackbird that is annoying the heck out of me... it's built a nest down at our waterfront and now considers it off limits to everyone and everything.
It keeps chasing our heron away, and dives at people who go out to use the boats.
I love herons, there was a great blue living near the pond where we lived in Dayton, but didn't ever get a chance for a photo (pre good camera days) but he was quite lovely.
Blackbirds can sure be annoying at times. They pretty much think they own the neighborhood when the move in.
Remember, the way to a guy's heart is through his stomach -- or through the 4th rib from the bottom on the left side. LOL
One would think this would work. And I've tried it. Have a feeder in the tree near the window. But he likes to sit on the opposite side from the window and flies off when I point the camera at him. I did catch his wife once but the pictures came out a bit blurry.
Years ago, on Kauai, Hawaii, a cardinal would come in an perch in the tree just outside the bedroom window. He was a brave fellow, and I was able to get some pictures of him with no subterfuge at all.
I'll bet that you come up with a way.
Stick a small mirror outside the window. Male Cardinals like to look at, and challenge what they think is another Cardinal..This may preoccupiy the bugger long enough for you to get some pictures.
I'll have to try that!
Nancy, surely this beautiful Cardinal is not a " buttmunchbird "!
yes... yes he is!! trust me on this.
I seem to have the same problem with the blue jays I've finally attracted.
I haven't ever been able to get a photo of a Jay, but I don't see him as often either. The cardinal is a tease. I just know he's laughing at me
How funny
LOLOL I have a nuthatch outise my window and he pecks and pecks the siding and sounds like a nail gun! I throw a penny at the gutter to make a sound and he flies away. No he doesnt leave when I ask him to! I say Shoo Shoo and he just pecks away!
But if you wanted to take his picture? would he smile for you or hide? LOL
LOL!!! What a PITA. On Saturday at the cookout, I had the dogs with me. Well Datz was doing the cutest thing, and I went to grab my camera. The moment I turned it on he stopped doing what he was doing and just stared at me! It never fails!
yep my cats do this a lot
I lived on a beautiful river inthe Hill Country of Texas. I spent $100 a month to feed the Cardinas and developed quite a huge number. At feeding time the trees were decoratedin red.
When I moved, I worried what would happen to them. I felt I had developed this huge colony and then deserted them.
I also had a squirrel in the old house that would do something similar - it would make noise outside my kitchen window. When I went to look outside, it would be gone. Every day it did that. It taunted me. Drove me nuts.
