He's Sick!!!

We went to lunch today at the new restaurant that opened on Monday,food was great andservice was a little slow but no big deal they were packed.At the hot bar I could not help but hear a person who I guess is the mother but (I will not think about that now.)hatefully ask what this small child wanted on his plate.I know that at one time this women was a good woman but I got very up set with her tone.I guess this child may be about 3 or 4 at most.I got my plate fixed and went to the smoking area in the back and darn there they were.



While we were eating this poor child starts to cry for no reason that I could see,I really think he was not hungry,I think he's really sick.Instead of asking what is wrong in a mother voice she's really mean and wants to know why you are crying,well the poor child just shaking his head would not answer.When she got up to get something else he started to cough and you could hear him raddle and then the whoop,when she got back I asked her if the child was sick?She said they had all had a cold,but he was just acting up today.I asked if he was in daycare and no he's not but older kids go to school.How long has he had this cough I ask,Oh he's just showing out.As a mother of 3 kids and 9 grandkids I guess you know i was getting very mad!But I held my temper.Then I asked again how long this poor child had been sick,not long we all have had a cold.



I looked at this poor pale as cotton child and said I guess you know best,but I guess you don't know what whooping cough sounds like do you?I got a look from her that I guess if my grown daughter would give me I would pop her one,I said  lady if you care at all about that child take him to the doctor before it gets worst.That child can choke on the mess he's coughing up,when he whoops back.



Here in North Carolina we have had alot of whooping cough this year,I had a son get it 33years ago after his first shots,its a sound that you never forget.



I just needed a rant today,as I had a bad lunch , i hope she takes the child to the doctor and I'm not sorry I butted in where it was not my place to do so.

I had whooping cough while pregnant with my daughter. I was sick for months and months.

I hate it when people take their sick kids out to places where they will infect everyone else. The poor child should have been home and in bed.

You were right. You were trying to help. Some mothers just don't seem to want the responsibility they've taken on. It's easier to ignore thing, put them off. But I know how bad whooping cough can be and it's very contagious. My friend, who is 36, caught whooping cough from someone at work and was in the hospital for several days. When I went to visit they made me wear a mask. She was in an isolation room. It took her MONTHS to get over this ailment. This woman was SELFISH and DISRESPECTFUL (anyone near the child could have gotten sick from his germs).

I hope and pary this mother listens to you. I will pray for this child. I would hate to hear of this child dying because of neglect from th emother. I can remember when my baby brother was just a baby 21 years ago. He caught the whopping cough cause at the time my mom moved from a different county. She had problems with the health department when she tried to get him his shots. For some reason they wouldn't let her. In the mean time, my brother caught the whooping cough. I will never ever forget that time. My mother went from doctor to doctor til my brother finally had one of those coughing spells in front of a doctor. Where the doctor put him straight in the hospital in one of those bubble cribs. When he was finally allowed to come home. he was on a monitor hat hooked around his waist. It would go off alot. So we was always running to check on him. This was during the summer time to boot. Can you imgane how miswerable my brother was?

the kid is sick and she has him in the smoking section someone should have smacked the nut. people like that dont deserve kids.

Thank you for ruining your lunch in order to attempt to bring this mother to her senses. She is obviously overloaded, is probably sick herself, and can't deal with the idea that her kid is seriously sick. So... she just goes into denial. Maybe you shamed her, or got her mad, but I bet she left there and will do something about this. Let's hope it was just a bad day and she's trying to quit smoking or something and is in transition to a more loving, kinder place.

If not, pop her one again the next time you see her.:)

I never know what to do in those situations. Not having kids, I think I really can't say anything. What's she doing with her kid in the smoking section? No wonder they are all sick.

Thanks and I would have been concerned too. I'm not one to go to the ER for a hang nail but when you or your kids are sick you need to seek proper medical help.

Darn skippy! You should NOT be sorry. I hope she thinks about what you said and gets him some help.

We keep having outbreaks of whooping cough (here in this state) despite vaxes, and now I keep seeing articles talking about vaccines in this place or that where there's been some issue and they haven't been stored at the right temperature and don't work. Even people who may think their children are covered may not be. Scary stuff.

sounds like she is a very shallow uncaring person. Even when I am impatient with my child i am not unkind and every time she sounds like she doesn't feel good or if she just tells me she doesn't feel good I take her to the doctor. I would rather be told there is nothing wrong and I wasted the trip then to not go and have something be really really wrong. This makes me ANGRY with the lady in the restaurant. When your child is sick they are GOING to "act out" don't we all act differently when we don't feel well. When one of my kids is sick it makes me MORE PATIENT and understanding then usual!!!! Geez some people!

Thank you all for the comments,If anyone has ever heard the whoop when a person has whooping cough they never forget it.robert was 6 weeks old and I was up it seems like forever,every two days to the doctor for shots,I will never forget what it sounds like.

Yeah not only have there sick kid out to a crowded place but to have him in the smoking section is worse.I mean you hear about people who did nothing wrong and don't deserve it have there kids taken away for no reason and put somewere else but this lady gets to keep her kid.This world is messed up.I will keep that kid in my prayers.He really needs the prayers cause by the way you made her sound I doubt she will take him to the doctor. Poor Poor kid more so cause it is Christmas time.I hope it is not whooping couge cause man to have 1 kid sick and not do anything is bad enough but to have all your kids that sick and not do anything is just in my opinion is child abuse.They are suffering.

i agree. having a sick child and ignoring his cough is bad enough, but then stick the poor thing in the smoking section which could make him worse, poor kid. hopefully the mother took your advice!

Sorry you had a bad lunch but i would of did the same.I don't have kids i have enough sense to take my child to the dr and keep at home in bed.I used to work in headstart these mothers would bring in children sick i was sick most of the time had to stay home from work......First of all kids shouldn't be around second hand smoke...I would of done the same.Hopefully the mother took your advice took him to the dr....Thanks for sharing....

This has laid heavy on my heart today and thats why I ranted I so glad that I would not have been the only one to butt in.I smoke I have for years and try not to push my habit on anyone,I don't smoke in the house with my grandkids but when my kids were growing up I did,years ago that was no big thing.But today was just heartbreaking for me.Thank you all for your comments its made me feel better.

What a sad story - a child with a mother that is mean spirited and doesn't give a damn. I'm so blesses my growing up years were not like that and because of the way I was raised my children were raised in a happy home too.

This is sad. I'm glad you spoke up. I really wonder if some people should have children. This woman sounds to me like she's both uncaring and ignorant. My mom told me I had whopping cough when I was only one year old and it was life threatening. This disease in children is very serious and parents need to understand this. It should be on public TV news stations and PSA announcements on radio.

I hope she took your advice.Some parents should not even have a child...Those are the same ones who try to get pity when something happens to the child because of negligence.

Stopped to thank you for your nice comment..Instead I want to commend you for being a staunch advocate of that abused child...that was no 'mother' as an alley cat with a litter would have better instincts.
Whopping Cough(Pertussis) is making a come back as some folks fore-go the childhood innoculations.
That little boy very well could have it.And be at risk for serious illness/complications.
Hoping the memory of that lousy lunch and subsequent heartburn is eased by knowing you tried to help...you're great.

ANYWAYS, I personally applaud you for "butting" in as you called it. I am the same way and would have done the same thing. Some people are just not fit to be parents! No, I'm not a perfect parent and won't even go as far to say I am a great parent. But by golly, I realize illnesses can lead to bad bad things. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure those things out. Why can't people put thier kids health first? okay-- thanks for letting me rant...

That poor child. I doubt the mother listened, but I hope someone in her family sees what is going on and intervenes. There is no excuse for treating a child of that age (any age actually) that way.
The one thing that does surprise me is that she didn't fly into your face screaming and shouting to butt out, mind your own business, F*** You!, etc. Can you tell I have been down this road before? But none of it ever deters me. What's right is right!!! And you were definitely right!
