I know I have been posting tons of pictures on historical places! I love showing people the beauty of America. If I traveled outside , I would show that too!
I just hope that I have made you guys want to go, that even on a tight budget...trips are possible. I have stayed in campgrounds, cheapie hotels, etc. I have told my friends that if you lower your accomendation standards, you can go anywhere! and I did!
I probably should have been a travel agent! My original goal in life was 2 things- one medicine and the other history. I had applied to a internship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art when I was 17 - in the Egyptian wing. I got a call back, but in reality- I did not have the money for train fare. The program was really for city kids, but my Art History teacher had sent my name in. I was so proud that I was picked for an interview, then they called me back for a second one(funny- this is an unpaid position!). I had to tell them I couldn't do it, if I had the chain of events in my life would have changed and probably none of my girls would be here!
I almost became an Egyptologist, I had gotten accepted twice to Queens University in NY. The first time, I did not have the money-or knew how to get it. The second time- I got pregnant and tossed those dreams away..but did I really?
I do feel as if I had lived some of those dreams by traveling, I have been to archeaological sites. No, I have not been a particpant on a dig, but I did get to go to some American sites. ie...Rebecca Nurse Home in MA, Williamsburg, VA and Jamestown,VA. I feel as if a part of my dream did happen...not the way I expected..but I did get to experience part. As for the kids part, I never regretted them- in my case - not once did they ever really hold me back..I just took them with me!! as for the paranormal stuff..it kinda goes hand in hand with all the rest.

Esther, thanks..your articles are very interesting!
I have to tell you. We were on vacation in Canada. We stopped at a rest stop for lunch. The girls were in their teens. We figured that vacation would be our last with them so we did it up big. We pulled into the rest stop and there was a sign that archaeologists were there and not to disturb them. Our girls went nuts. They were both interested in that and flew off to watch but not disturb.
We sat on a hill probably 30 feet from the dig site, which was on a river bank, long since dried up or rerouted. They watched our girls who were just in awe. The girls would catch them looking and ask a question. A man walked over and asked the girls a few questions. Told them it was his company that was digging and asked if they wanted a closer look. He winked at us. He took them in the site to see a bowl they were excavating. It was amazing and it made the girls' trip so special.
Colonial Williamsburg actually had a program..I loved it.
green mist...me too!!
