What ever happened to common courtesy ???

I've seen more & more like this. In my area, it is common to pull out & drive on the shoulder if there isn't a break in traffic soon enough to suit you. SOmetimes they are pulling out right as you are going by, scaring the crap out of you.

People act like they are in too much of a hurry or they are too important to stop for anything. So many people are focused on themselves these days with little regard for anyone else.

I've seen this more and more often too, but more so in the cities than on back roads.

I think you can actually get ticketed for that.

I've seen that around here also. I have begun to think that people don't learn that they are supposed to do this anymore.

You forget that everyone feels that they are more important than everyone else. It's called 21st century America.

It is not just courtesy - it's the law! And why so many people think that they don't have to follow it is beyond me!

It still that way in a lot of small towns.

It is very rude and stupid.

Same things are happening with speed limits and stop signs/red lights as well...people seem to think that the rules don't apply to them. We have some road construction/repair going on and it has made the road into one lane, so they put up temporary traffic lights. I am all the time getting passed because I stop when the light turns red and the people behind me don't want to stop, so they go around. One of these days, they will do that when there is a car coming the other way and there will be a huge wreck. I'm all the time getting passed on a double yellow line no passing zone because I am doing the speed limit and the people are in such a hurry they have to fly past me. I wonder why the rules apply to some of us and not others...

So many people are in a rush, and more and more self centered. It's sad, but that seems to be the reason. Too self absorbed in their own needs.

It's sad and selfish of them. But they'd be screaming the loudest if it was their family that couldn't be helped fast enough because the ambulance was slowed down because of people just like them.

Everyone is in such a hurry, and don't care about anyone else.

I am guilty of it sometimes, I admit. But not as much as when I had to go to work everyday.

It's not just courtesy to pull over here..it's the law! I would have gotten the plate # & reported it. I hope maybe the emergency people did.

This is a common occurrence in our society. Many folks are not fit to be on the road mentally.

Luckily nothing happened to anyone. They were just out there doing their business and some jerk either didn't or couldn't see or hear their sirens.

I agree with you. More and more I see people totally ignoring the things we all used to take as a given. Its sad.

People can be SO self-centered! Ugh! Some people think their personal agendas are more important than anything else that's going on in the world, including whatever patient an ambulance might be on the way to assist. I firmly believe that in whatever afterlife there is for us, we get back what we've given in this life -- and unfortunately that's gonna be pretty pathetic for some. Karma will come back and bite them all right in their... uh... license plates. *grin*

I think we all see this kind of thing, every time we get on the road. Someone is always trying to pass you and get a miserable 10 feet ahead of you, and they'll cut in front of any car they can, just be be "first in line" on the road. And then, as it turns out, they end up at a stop light, right next to you. So then I ask myself, how much farther did they get, then I did?

Everyone is in such a big hurry, these days. I don't know where they're all going, but I'm going to work, and I don't drive like a lunatic, just to get there.

I think the worst driving experience I've ever had was when I lived in a State where everyone tailgated you. That used to aggravate me more than anything. My goodness! If they wanted to get ahead of me so bady, they could have just passed me! But they wouldn't. If I drove straight down that road for 20 miles, they'd be tailgating me for 20 miles. Unbelieveable, that was.

People are in just too much of a hurry. And what they don't seem to realize is that they're not going to get there any faster than anyone else.

I noticed the same behavior here in Vegas. People slow down and try to stay out of the emergency vehicles way but no one pulls over and stops. This makes it impossible for you to do also, if you ar in the center lanes.

I'm with you Dave, but I try to be positive by raising my daughter to be courteous and supporting institutions that teach that lost art. As much as I used to look at my boarding school education as more of an education of hypocracy, now that I'm older, I support my Alma Mater, St. Stanislaus College for Boys, fully, as they are one of the institutions that are raising young men of character, young men that are honest, compassionate, educated and courteous. The school was devastated by Katrina, but was one of the few that remained open (they had the only category 5-built building for 200 miles) the entire time. Now I support them in fund raising efforts to help them fully recover from the storm damage; they are a bastion of courage, honesty and service.

I get upset too! It's just stooopid to think that they couldn't wait another 10 seconds for them to pass. The ambulances should all have a road grader in front to push aside any "stray" vehicles. People might get the hint if they were dumped in a ditch once or twice by an angry ambulance driver ;)

You know I don't know. I had this happen before too. One time when my daughter was in the back of an ambulance not breathing we were speeding down the road with the siren on and so many cars kept turning and driving right in front of us .. then we caught a train. Needless to say my child died and I always wondered the what if's ... so when ever I see people who have no common courtesy and no compassion for others it makes me sick. Physically sick. Makes me want to pull them out of the car and give them a butt chewing of a lifetime .. and the biggest guilt trip in the world. How can some people be so heartless? I mean don't they know someone's life could be on the line? grr ... I am such a caring and compassionate person I do not understand it.

I think this is very dangerous and drivers like that should be fined or have their driver's license suspended.
