Just to let y'all know--yes this is an actual condition i'm going thru. I have degenerative disc disease compounded by rheumatoid arthritis, and restless leg syndrome. I currently am able to still work but my lifting capability is greatly diminished and i suffer from constant sciatica in one leg and intermittent in the other and occassionaly wake with my right arm so numb and tingly that i can't hold a coffee cup. This was a recent diagnosis and i'm trying my best to deal with it and prepare for the road ahead--my hubby unfortunately only wants to deal with the here and now and doesn't want to face the ugly facts--especially withme refusing major surgery for the time being. I'm doing pain management and physical therapy. I personally know three others who've been down this same road and who have had some of the best doctors around--i've researched you name it. I try to talk with my spouse but sometimes the only wayh i can get thru to him is thru verse and rhyme--i keep a journal for that sort of thing. my biggest fear is that he will grow resentful, and our relationship go south, i've watched it happen to others--he thinks he can handle this mess--so did they--all i can do is pray.

Dear Pamela, I believe there is reason for much more hope in your future. I carry that diagnosis (DDD). I underwent cervical spinal surgery with a two-level fusion. I only gave into that after I totally lost muscle function of my left bicep and surrounding tissues.

One year later I have now fully recovered arm function and my neck is vastly improved. I went through the lumbar nightmare about 15 years ago, and mainly by reading Dr. Serno's little book on curing back pain, I no longer suffer from sciatica.

My degenerative disk disease is just there - held at bay. Lumbar spinal stenosis and all the other diagnoses just sit there. I move. Right now, the arthritic (osteo)condition of my knees is my most difficult physical challenge.

The mind believes EVERYTHING we tell it. What are you telling yours? Your body dutifully follows your mental energy patterns. The brain is "plastic" and available for rerouting and pruning throughout our life span. Hope, Courage and Confidence, okay?!!

Thank you Jared--have recently gone back to my native american/buddhist way of thinking about dis-ease--I'm getting better--at least in small measureable ways--I am thinking about the surgery--but i'm still iffy about it. Since switching gears here recently--I've found less pain in my back and that the biggest pain i have at the moment is not my back but the stupid right ankle--they've been weak since birth despite all my efforts for strengthening--but hey if the body were perfect i'd not be the same me. Diet is another thing i've been changing--I plan on beating this thing one way or the other and the old ways seem to work better for me --Namaste'--time for my prayer smoke to go heavenward and for sume much needed sleep.
