Just out of curiosity's sake, I notice quite a few on this list... Why are you interested in herbal or natural healing? Do you have a family history? Are you unsatisfied with dealings with the FDA and insurance companies? Religious reasons?
Myself?
Well, I have always been terrified of hospitals and doctors and matters only keep getting worse.... On top of that I seem to react rather badly to a rather large amount of prescription and over the counter drugs. I can take asprin, and tylenol, but that's about it. Some years back when I started historical reenactment I thought- why not do some research in to herbal and natural healing. I found that it became a passion- and my body tolerated the natural cures ever so much better. I seemed to have a gift for it... choosing which herbs would work, so I kept researching and reading and growing medicinal herbs. I now have a nice garden and a small offshoot business on our website- Wicked Stepmother's formularies (it's a joke between my stepdaugher and myself. My stepson's wife thinks I'm a regular witch doctor and who knows maybe I am!) at http://www.shootingstarhistory.com/wickedstepmother .
Recently I had a native american friend inform me- no wonder I was good at this stuff- my birth sign was the otter. So perhaps I was born to be gently nudged in the direction of using what the good earth has given us for healing ourselves. So what about the rest of you?

As a toxicologist, let me warn you that "natural" does not mean safe. Mother nature makes some of the most toxic substance known to my science. Be very careful of such substances...everything is a poison...it just depends on the dose you take, and whether or not you are an individual who is more sensitive to a particular toxicity. Sadly, many find out the latter too late.
I would like to debate the issue of "everything" being poison but if you ever use too much Slippery Elm Bark you will learn fast that caution should be the rule.

True, some natural things are unsafe, but at least I know that and can be careful.
Unlike when we are told by the gov't or some doctor that chemicals are "good for you" and then we find out 10 years later that it must be recalled due to horrible side effects.
I would MUCH rather drink some chamomile/mint/honey tea to relax than to take some expensive drug.
Organically yours,
