burned the midnight oil,
up with the Robin,
daughter off to school,
back on Gather,
buzz on the airwaves,
before a long day at work,
not home again til late,
a few more minutes of sleep,
sunk into the down comforter,
cat at my feet, a divine surprise,
but oh, hark, the blasted alarm went off
some funky hip-hop rap, jagging
my bones and nerves;
outside,
landscapers' mowers
hum in tune
with the funky hip-hop rap,
jagging my bones and nerves;
it is a syncopated, urban cacophany
marking metered time in suburban bliss,
like a metronome, the seconds tick by
on the clock,
and the hum of the mowers,
like a thousand locusts
shatter the suburban silence,
all remind me
that this divine surprise,
my little sleep,
has come to a close,
and I rise,
I've made the divine sacrifice.

Pavan, I've got to check out that interesting icon of yours.
Good work.
Rory, yes, tongue in cheek, as well as a real slice of life yesterday morning...
Jack, thanks for enjoying this piece.
Thanks Edie...it is so true, in the summertime, isn't it?
Steve, sleep, sleep, sleep...I'd love to sleep more.....
