bush seems to be shrinking in stature by the moment. The comparison between these two could not be more stark. bush was always a parody of a leader. With his phony Crawford ranch, his brush cutting so he would seem just like those average "Joes ", those "Joe the Plumber" types that the Republicans think inhabit every inch of their party, when he was actually a child of the elite Eastern establishment, a child of wealth and means, a child of Harvard and Yale, a child who never actually earned a single thing in his life, yet felt "entitled" to be President, (Republicans LOVE to use that word "entitled" along with "elite" against the Democrats, when most of the truly "entitled" "elite" folks are the guys pulling the strings in the Republican party).
But now, at long last, after our own American "period of darkness" our "Middle Ages" so to speak, when our intellectual, scientific, creative and moral lights were turned out by the forces of ignorance and fear that ran our country, we now have a Leader.
After 8 years, we never really knew who was leading us. Was it Dick Cheney, from is underground bunker? Was it some mix of CEOs from Halliburton, GE, Exxon Mobile, with the Saudi Family thrown in as "Advisors"? We STILL don't know who attended those first meetings back almost 8 years ago, those top secret meetings, when Cheney and his corporate cabal formed this countries energy policy, that disasterous energy policy based on oil, that drove us to war in Iraq. Eight long years, and we still don't know who our leaders were.
One thing we do know for sure, it wasn't g.w. bush. bush of the garbled syntax. bush with his deer-caught-in-the-headlights stare as he gets the news of the planes crashing in to the Twin Towers on 911. bush with his condescending nicknames for all on his staff. bush who hated to travel outside the country. bush who seemed more interested in riding his mountain bike than in the people drowning in New Orleans during Katrina. bush who tapped danced for the press as the economy crashed around his ears. bush of "you're doin ' a swell job Brownie". bush of "The economy is strong". bush of the cowardly "signing statements" so even the laws that we believe were past may not apply to g.w.bush-is this not the ULTIMATE in "elitism"?
We do not have any idea who has been governing this nation these past 8 years. We have been a rudderless country, careening from one disaster to another, with constant changes in all government agencies and military personal when some invisible party line was not being followed. But it was never overt. Governing from behind the curtain, from back rooms, and dark alleys. Now the darkness has ended. In the next days and weeks as Obama shines some light on our situation and we see the stinking, smoldering mess that has been the bush legacy, we will all see how close to the edge he brought us. But it's not going to be easy. We all know that. But at least now we have a leader worthy of the country, and worthy to bear the title of president. We may not like or agree with all of his decisions, but at least we know it is he who is making them.

He'll need more than luck... but it wasn't luck who brought him to this presidency. It was his intelligence.
I doubt we'll ever be unified. There is that core group of haters and racists who will never unify under a black president, nor will they be comfortable without clinging to their religion, their guns, and their fight against gay folks.
Governance by the elite, while feeding the masses the "noble lie" because they can't handle the truth.
A governing elite which doesn't have to believe in religion but must state that they do in order to use religion as a force for a cohesive populace that can be governed when they are unified
A citizenry that is cohesive in being united against a common enemy in "perpetual war."
Now, if this isn't exactly what happened: hallmarks of the administration being lies and deceptions, a Christian conservative base, and perpetual war (on "terror") ...and their supporters didn't get played by Bush and his buddies --- it's a hell of a coincidence.
Well said. History repeated itself under bush. Now with Obama America can start making history again instead of repeating it.
He sure has and is all that you say here.... already!
Too bad Bush doesn't have to leave office immediately and let him in there. We can still go through a lot worse under George W.'s craziness these next few months. Perhaps Obama will be able to convince Bush of that during their visit tomorrow. We can only hope that something inside George W. changed a little too with this election.
He seems to be shrinking by the hour. Like the bad witch in the wizard of Oz, if we thow a bucket of water on him, I think he'd just dissolve into a puddle at our feet.
When I see that stupid smirk on bush's face it's hard to know what he is thinking, and like I mentioned in the article, he may not be the one deciding what his administration will do next in any case. Dick Cheney is the elephant in the room and crazier than bush. Hard to know what he's got up his sleeve.
And thanks for characterizing the "stupid smirk" on bush's (I like the refusal to capitalize too-- I try to avoid referring to him as "president" whenever possible.) If it all weren't so tragic and horrendous, Chimpy McFlightsuit with his pompous attitude and obnoxious demeanor would make a fine cartoon character.
According to prophecy I was given in 2004, our first woman president would be Hispanic - and before that could happen, we'd have a Black male president. We have that now. It was a given, and it is a given. There's a plan.
We were "abandoned" by our human leader, yes - and we were left on our own to find our true inner leader.
Once we - the majority, anyway - found our inner President, then our true outer President showed up. And there are more to come.
Let's keep our inner leader all shiny and clean and ethical and full of helpfulness, so we can keep manifesting good outer leaders, eh?
Where did your prophecy come from???
I'm not much in to that sort of thing, the whole religion, spirituality deal is tough for me to accept. I would guess that a well informed, intelligent person, who had some level of objectivity in a given situation might have "predicted" the same thing...
It explains who was running the country and how it happened and why.
bush seems to be shrinking in stature by the moment
Are you sure?
I thought he'd already shrunk as low as he could go.
Also, if you compare the campaign that Obama ran (and yes he really was in charge according to the staff) with the campaign that McCain was the titular head of it makes one wonder who was inexperienced and who was the veteran. If Obama is this good without experience just think how good he can become with some experience.
Enjoy!
I signed up to be a "foot soldier" for change. I'm joining the local dem party in my township. For those who do not currently have jobs (and that's a too large number) or want a job in the "change" field, there is a link to the application form.
Blessings, Cynthia--let's enroll again, and work to back up our claim that we want change.
It is with acts and service on the local levels that his changes can be implemented.

I'm more enrolled in what he said in one of his speeches...
Winning this election is only the start...it is the chance to do the work, to make the changes this country so desperately needs.
Wow. Clear insight.
How refreshing!
