As those of you who have read my articles over the last few months know, you are aware that (if Gore does not get into the race) I have predicted that John Edwards, not Senator Clinton nor Senator Obama, would be the nominee of the Democratic party for President in 2008. In a nutshell, I feel that Clinton is too polarizing (even among Democrats), and that Obama is too inexperienced at this point. Edwards, by comparison, has already fought the campaign battles (having been the Democratic party nominee for V.P. in 2004), and has had a "presidential" air about him.
Well, what a difference a few months can make. In recent speeches, I am told he looks like the "fire's not in the belly" like it once was, and that his second quarter fundraising is likely to be EXTREMELY unimpressive.
As always, I think the world of my fellow Gatherers, their intellect, and their opinions -- agree or disagree. In your opinion, is the Edwards campaign in trouble, particularly relative to that of Clinton or Obama? Why/why not?
I can't wait to hear from you!

Obama's fundraising has also slowed down; for better or worse, Hillary seems to be the one with staying power ... at this point. I agree with you that she is polarizing, but that doesn't mean she won't be nominated. Nonetheless, we still do have 7 months till we find out who the nominee is, and any major event can change the dynamics on both sides of the aisle.
For now, however, I'm going to stick to my original list . (My primary prediction was Gore, should he get in.)
Thanks again, Lynn! Feel free to come back again with additional thoughts, etc.
I don't think Gore has a chance and at this point, John Edwards might not either, though I'm still reserving my opinion on that one. Olbama is a definite maybe and I don't even want to think about Clinton! Ack.
Could it be that the fact that John Edward's wife has cancer, do you think? At this point, there's a lot of room for change and I'm totally confused as to who/what to vote for!

PS: Mark's asleep, I'm featuring this in his group- Purely Political!
Edwards has been more on fire than ever recently, and I have seen him a number of times in person. After last Tuesday's speech at the Take Back America conference, which I attended, almost everyone in the audience who I spoke to was leaning toward him. They were very impressed with his sweeping vision for positive change.
Does Hillary really receive such an overwhelming loyalty from female voters?
I'm confused by your simultaneous admiration for Edwards, Richardson and Paul. Ron Paul's politics differ so raqdically from those of the other two that I find it hard to conceive of supporting them simultaneously
As I've said before, I am an Edwards supporter. However, he seems to have been thrown a setback by his wife's cancer. And he has been upstaged by Obama due to Obama's newness and charisma. However, he may do well in the early caucus states and that could revitalize his effort. I recall how Dean was the early leader four years ago and how quickly he faded into oblivion.
Right now it's looking like a Hillary/Obama ticket and I have no idea how that will play out. It's so different that conventional wisdom doesn't mean a thing!
Now, as of today, the democrats are criticizing Hillary for wearing an outfit that showed too much cleavage, which I didn't think was provacitive.
Is this a mere coincident? I don't really think so.
