OK, folks. I've been hearing lots of complaining, Republicans complaining about Democrats, Democrats complaining about Republicans, Democrats complaining about Democrats, and now, especially since the Foley scandal, Republicans complaining about Republicans. I don't care what the label is. We have a two party system. If you're a liberal-hating conservative, an old-fashioned conservative who hates the right-wing calling itself conservative when they're really radical, a liberal Republican, a conservative Democrat, whatever, who cares? If you don't like what's going on, VOTE!
Why don't most Americans VOTE? Because they're disillusioned. Why are they disillusioned? When you get down to it, it's because they DON"T VOTE! We've got a vicious circle going here, folks. All our noble leaders have to do, in either party, is to please the most fanatical among us. Because they're the only people who are actually gonna go to the polls and VOTE! You know that's true. That's why you don't vote, isn't it? You know you're not gonna get what you want if you vote, so why bother?
Yeah, sure. That's the vicious circle, isn't it? We don't wanna upset our noble leaders by disappointing their expectations, do we? Well, I sure wouldn't mind shaking them up a bit. Imagine what would happen if 25% more voters, or even say 10% more, were to start turning up at the polls and actually voting. Why, if the majority of those eligible to vote started to do it, that would be equal to having a bloodless revolution! That would completely shake things up, folks. Our party leaders would have to begin paying attention! Once again our vote would begin to, uh, matter!
Why do you think you don't hear calls to go VOTE! Oh, sure, the Republicans campaign among the church memberships aligned with them, which they're not supposed to do, but they're very careful exactly WHERE they campaign, aren't they? And careful about WHO they allow in the audience for major speeches? Don't want to stir up that sleeping beast, the public, do they? And isn't exactly the same true of the Democrats? Where do they do their campaigning, and who hears them? The leaders of NEITHER party really want us, the scary unconverted, to GO VOTE.
So do it. Whichever party you align yourself with, whoever you're cheering for, go do it. GO VOTE!

Porgie, you and your paranoia are one day going to leave you empty, adrift, and completely disenfranchised from not only politics, but reality itself.
Meryl I wouldn't be too surprised by any rating you get--- people "rate" these articles for all kinds of reasons, many unrelated to the content of the article. Don't sweat it.
A huge amount of the sway held by Corporate America and the rich and elite would be eliminated with a mulitple party system. If we had 3,4 even 10 different parties in the process, no one party would hold a majority in Congress, every would have to make concessions, form coalitions with other parties to carry the day. A multiple party system would offset and balance out BIG MONEY. Both the Democrats and the Republicans know this, which is why there is ALWAYS bipartisan support for any laws aimed at blocking a third party from gaining ground.
Thanks.
Obviously you misunderstood the point. John did not say we should do away with political parties. He said we should concentrate more on candidates. There is no wishing going on here.
I have to assume he was talking about political parties, even if YOU don't. That certainly sounds like wishing for "something better" to me.
And yet you're apologizing, it must have held up just fine.
