The earth is getting warmer. That is clear. But the real question is why. Is it because of human activity, the burning of fossil fuels to produce greenhouse gases, like CO2? Is it a natural cycle, with nothing at all to do with pollution or industry? Thanks to the research efforts of a small but dedicated group of scientists, working until now in relative obscurity, we finally have the answer. The paper announcing this finding is to be published in the next edition of Science, but as a reviewer I got an advanced look at the paper, and felt that the information is too important to be kept secret.
I turns out that the real culprit for Global warming is not CO2, but another much more potent greenhouse gas called, dimethyl propyl sultone. (DPS). This colorless, odorless gas is 35 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2 or methane or any other substance. The bad news is that for the past 4 decades we have been generating large amounts of this material and this has been the reason for the melting polar ice and all the terrible effects of our warming Earth. The good news, is that it is relatively simple to correct the situation, since DPS is produced only under certain very special conditions.
In fact there are three main sources of DPS. The third most important is the organic food industry. It turns out that many food crops which naturally put out DPS as they grow are inhibited from doing so by the use of pesticides and fertilizer. Organic crops, where such chemicals are not used have become a major source of environmental emissions of DPS. The second source is bicycle grease. While all the physics has not yet been worked out, it turns out that the grease and oil used in bicycles contains a compound which is broken down into DPS under the slow but steady effect of continuous pedaling.
And the most important common source of this evil chemical compound is color television. It is no coincidence that the use of color television has soared at exactly the same time that global warming became obvious. DPS is released during the transmission process of almost all color TV systems.
The authors of the paper call for a ban on organic food, bicycling and color TV, as the best way to halt the dangerous trend our planet is falling into. I can only agree.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this as a headline somewhere tomorrow.
I bet the producers of color televisions will try to keep this from getting out. You may be on a hit list. You better go into the witness protection program.
Good one Sy
Thanks, Sy!
