Nature Stories podcast: The Secret Life of New York's Bees
Produced by Kate Hinds
Although a sharp decline in the honeybee population has led many states to encourage beekeeping, New York City has long outlawed the harboring of these "poisonous animals." But some New Yorkers can't get enough of these alluring insects.
You can find hidden hives all over the city -- on rooftops, urban gardens, even balconies. This is the story of two hives, one in the Bronx, one in Manhattan, and the people who care for them.

He also thinks of bees as domestic animals. I'll direct him to this. Thanks!
Gisela, my step-father used to keep bees and truly enjoyed it. I believe he felt that he was furthering nature's work (pollinating flowers, providing a healthy food source, etc.).
