Female reporter sentenced to 60 lashes.

Thank the gods for the good ole U.S. of A.

A female reporter in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to sixtry lashes. Rozanna al-Yami, age 22, was charged with and convicted of involvement in aTV show in which a man publicly talked about sex. She was involved in the preparation and advertising of the show.

I can't imagine receiving one lash. Imagine receiving sixty lashes! It seems that would take a minimum of six minutes of agony and shame. Think of the pain and recuperation.

What a barbaric world! Man's inhumanity to man! Man's inhumanity to women!

She new what she was doing, and what would happen.

I am not sure that she knew what the man would say. She was involved in the production.

Are any men being given lashes--what I have read does not indicate so.

I recently saw a documentary called "Afghan Star" about the first-ever American-Idol-type show on Afghanistan television. During one of the singing performances, one of the female contestants got carried away and danced a little. Shortly thereafter, she had to go into hiding and her life was threatened for the disgrace of being a woman, and dancing in public.
In parts of the Middle East, it is not safe for women to step outside of their homes. These lawmakers are the people who strap bombs to people with Down syndrome and send them into market places to self-explode and kill strangers and children.
I do not condone all that happens in my (American) culture, but these regressive Islamic governments and factions are downright crazy.

agreed~ the laws governing women in these male dominated countries is medieval at best and plain deadly at worst~
lashing~honor killings~genital mutilation of females~ it's an everyday deal in most of those lovely countries~
so yeah~ thank goodness for countries that have come to the conclusion that females are not bovine which animal they are equated with in fringe Muslim texts~
