I wonder about all of the people who have given their lives for the freedom,we in America, are supposed to live in. We claim to be a democracy but have all these lives been sacraficed in vain? Why should'nt every citizen have the freedom to just be who they are and enjoy the same equal rights that all are supposed to be granted by their creator. Personally, I have never spoken to a person who would deny equal rights to anyone especially gay people, unless they claimed to base their views on their religion. Maybe there are plenty of people out there that do so but for me those I speak with, here in the Bible Belt, are adament "God" says gays are wrong. To me, it is as if they have no opinion of their own and hide their true feelings and beliefs by quoting a God that they have never met and just read about. How quickly things can change when something happens that those people themselves need help. Prejudice seems to flee when one is drowning in a river and one lone hand reaches out to save their life. Then they will not care if it is the hand of a gay person, a black person, a Muslin or a Christian. It will be the only hand that they can see and they will be thankful that it is there. Perspectives change according to experience. If Mother Nature has to go on the rampage and put us all in Katrina like situations in order for us to learn to help each other and lay down our taught prejudices and treat everyone as an equal then maybe that is what we need. Perhaps we could learn by opening up our minds, changing our perspectives and learning to live in peace with everyone, everywhere.

It's disgusting when a man in public kisses another one. Is that what we want to teach our children? Why do you think that Aids takes the lives of gay people and drug users who share needles? It's been genetically put into our dna and is like God's light switch that is activated or turned on once that individual decides to go against God's written and unwritten laws. The world started with a woman and man, not two women and surely did not start with two men. Go to poemhunter dot com and read my poem Aids and that poem of mine might open your eyes.Gay marriages need to catagorized as Bah Scumbug!
It's not cool to be gay...
Come to God's great right bright white light,
and in it's rays-bathe and please do stay.
Oh, forget it.
Everyone else,
Thanks for the great article, Patricia. I think that the media doesn't realize how smart most Americans really are. It is the rare bird today who doesn't at least understand that gays and lesbians should have equal rights in society.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TRUE AMERICAN: INSTALLMENT #71!
That's my only problem...why do they need SPECIAL RIGHTS?
"AIDS has been genetically put into our dna and is like God's light switch that is activated or turned on once that individual decides to go against God's written and unwritten laws"
and more importantly
"A recent announcement or theory or study has just been released saying that gay people are born that way and that it's in their DNA, but how can that be if God is punishing them with Aids already in their DNA?"
