Judgement Day----Dealing with Incest...based on true story

He lay there on the ground
cold and dead;
though not from bullets,
she had wished for his head.

Neither prison for him,
nor a gruelling fate.
Or judgement day
at the pearly gate.

Dead drunk, he had stumbled,
hitting the ground.
His head smashed open,
with a loud sound

Did God finally relent
having a say?
Telling, sinners like him
had to pay.

She had been scared
even in daylight;
knowing he would molest her,
come day or night.

She was a survivor,
would sleep well tonight;
now that he was dead,
she won't have to fight!

I was deeply anguished after what one of our students said about her father. He tried to molest her. She had been out of his clutches till date but for how long? She wished him dead! Talking to her mother did not help. The mother does not want to leave the scum! And neither does she want her daughter/s to come out in the open and protest!She has 5 children and he is the only breadwinner.After much persuasion, she sent her 2 daughters to live with one of her sisters. Will this help? Neither she nor her daughters want to go to the police.......In the circumstances, I did not have a clue what to do? I contacted a NGO. And a counsellor. The father seems to be ok now but the daughters are still away from home and are being well looked after. But they are away from their mother and brothers too.

At times, one does feel deeply anguished.

This must be a terrifying experience for this girl. I am sorry to hear about this. When something like this occurs, it is within your rights to go to the Police. I am very surprised that the Counselors haven't done this. Even if he seems ok now, this still needs to be dealt with legally so that he may get help.

Powerful Guatami about a very sad situation. What does He is ok now mean? I hope the girls stay where they are, even though it means being away from the rest of their family.

Angie, I agree what you say. But its not so easy. The wife does not want to go to the authorities. And neither does she want anyone else to do that.

Here in our social structure, it will be a kind of stigma for the girls too. So all I can do is keep the girls away.

Lauri,he had a drinking problem. He has given up on that, and repents for his behaviour. But I will never trust him. The girls do need to kept away. I will what I can.

I've often been under the influence. Quite a few times.
NEVER have I thought of molesting anyone. If one uses drink as the reason then one is saying that "it's not me. It's the booze." You're right. Caution is the word.

He will never be ok, he will always be a pervert no matter what anyone says. He should be reported to the authorities. There is no excuse for it, and her mother should be ashamed of herself to let her own child have to be sent away and stay with a man like that.

It is a sad situation guatami and I know it has played on your heart for a very long time. You did what you had to do, now it is in the hands of the powers that be. Unfortunately not much happens in a closed society, and then as you say, if the truth comes out the girls will be victimized again, only god can work this out.

this is sad for the little girl.This man is crazy and needs to spend the rest of his life in jail.I understand her.I was molested by a older cousin when I was younger but told I made it up to get attention by my gradmother long story anyhow.I can understand because I have been there.

This is an example of how poor children's rights can be in the face of social stigma and culturalization in any part of the world. How can we expect to have healthy adults when we treat our children so poorly?

This is a lurid tiding. These guys must be maniacs and I see this society too full of them. In less than two months, six cases of fathers and brothers raping daughters and sisters were reported from Hyderabad, the city I live. Keep letting the world know, Goutami. People are with you!

TOday there was news on TV showing a educated girl begging on the streets. She had been repeatedly raped by her father. But no one in her family believed it. The police too did not register a case. She is making her point by involving the media. I think we need more people like her to come out of the closet and say it. Its a problem which has to be dealt with.

I don't think fathers/brothers who rape their daughters/sister should be let off. They need to be severely punished.

It is a powerful and moving poem. Often it is a helpless situation when poverty is the throttling condition; the man is the only breadwinner and the society is unresponsive towards women and ready to brand the victims with stigma for life. Once is a while such cases come to light with the help of NGOs and get wide publicity through the media, but a large number of cases go unreported.

You know, this is not about what the mother wants or doesn't want. She gave up her right to choose when she did not immediately react by getting rid of that SOB when she found out what was going on. This angers me like you would not believe.
