The previous owners of my house planted tons of perennials and bushes. The most prolific plant by far is the cat mint (not the same thing as cat nip). I read somewhere that the idea of cat mint is that its purple flowers are reminiscent of lavender. I wouldn't really know since I've never grown lavender.
I've found though that the mint attracts tons of bumble bees to it. I love watching them but do my best to keep a respectful distance.
I've tried several times this spring to capture the beauty of these plants on camera and haven't had any luck. The pictures usually are out of focus or if they are in focus they just don't capture the essence of these pretty plants.
I think I finally succeeded in capturing it with the bumble bees. I couldn't decide which picture I liked better so I decided to write this as an article and include both pictures rather than just posting the picture.
Enjoy! (if you live nearby and want to dig some up for transplant you're welcome to it!!)
