I've always been drawn to forgotten spaces. An old barn, a corncrib, the farthest back room filled with old family heirlooms…they call to me. Maybe where I differ from the majority is in the ability to hear their calling.
My love of nature and color draws me to flowers, leaves, weeds and the little beasties that live there. With this photo project I have decided to combine the two and place some of the fresh beauty in unexpected places. I love the contrast and emotions they stir within me, my wish is it also moves others that take the time to immerse themselves within my images.
I’ve opted to use the rose for it’s sentiment and the somewhat somber buildings of a century farm who’s family is now gone. I feel it missing them. What do you feel?

Being a thrifty farm family almost everything was kept and reused. An old coffee can went from holding food in the kitchen, to scooping grain in the barn and finally protecting young plants in the garden.

An ivory rose rests upon a window frame long missing its glass. Weather has for years ravaged the wood, yet the days rain reflects only beauty.

Out in the grove a rusty green kettle fondly remembers brewing coffee at days break.

On a bench in the chicken coop bottles continue to keep safe long forgotten fluids.

Spokes rusted and bent, equipment served and discarded.

An old stove tucked away in the barn...the stickers it came with still attached, apparently better at their job of informing than the stove was at cooking.

Lastly, a single red rose on a window ledge of chipped paint. The family had done such a fantastic job with the upkeep of all the buildings until they were just to old and feeble. Now the buildings feel their age and that possibly their time has also come.
A special thank you to everyone for sharing your time and comments with me and my images.

My favorite is the rose in the coffee can; in it there is a brilliance of perception and composition that exceeds and excels the technology in the formation of art when human economy and nature's opulence are coupled in a dance of friendly colors dressed in souls of silk and metal. It moves me to breath quietly without thought.
I had tried last week putting a tulip on a rock for contrast but didnt come up with anything like these photos they are just breath taking
I love roses and those forgotten spaces. Bringing them together was genius. Your photos and words moved me. Thanks.

Douglas - thank you so much for digging deep and definitely sharing how they made you feel.
Mandi - you can click on the images at the top of the story and see them almost full screen size by just clicking the next button, I know you miss the wording set next to them that way - but hopefully you can still enjoy them the way I hope.
For anyone that received multiple emails from me, I apologize - not sure if it was a Gather glitch or I stuttered ;)... I also tried a newly found button to list everyone that had sent me something and just pasted those names in - could be the problem. Please forgive.
Thanks again,
nice image and interesting composition Layne... beautiful flowers.
Blessings
