My Dad always came home with the worst dogs. If there was a crazy dog out there, he would gravitate to it, crazy cats as well. We had a disoriented cat called Nutsy, when she walkd it looked like each leg was going in a different direction. We had one good German Shepherd but after protection my sister against a trespasser she was poisoned. After that it was all down hill.
We had a beautiful red female Doberman for about a day that we called the Velociraptor. My Dad brought it home even though the shelter mentioned to him it went after rabbits. He figured,we're ok we don't have a rabbit. We did have a fluffy ,white, tiny poodle with long ears-can we say dog version of rabbit? The Velociraptor was doing just fine, adapting to the house until it spied Fifi. In a flash the Dobie was airborne, lunging across the room after white thing that looks like rabbit (thats Indian speak for poodle with long ears).
Then there was Baron. Baron was very possessive of my Dad. He was a huge well muscled Doberman with a bit of a temper. He was quick to show his teeth . He also did not like anyone going near my Dad. He was very protective of my Dad. My Dad thought this was cute, it was not so cute. He was about 160 lbs of malice. My Dad was maybe 135-140.
My fears were well confirmed. One day, my Dad gave me a hug when I walked in and Baron took that all in. He let my Dad walk through the door, he followed and then I was about to walk in. Baron turned and went for my throat. I was able to shift out of line of the atttack but that was it. He'd crossed the line.
By then my Mom had stroked and was in rehab. We were going to have to hire caretakers, there was no way we could have him around under these conditions. Finally, my Dad realized how bad this situation was.
We found Baron a home with a Guard dog company. He was now a sentry. We kept in touch with the owner and he told us this was by far the most aggressive dog he'd ever seen. Baron guarded the Country Club pool in our town and every morning they would come to pick him up and find dead critter bodies.
Dad sure could pick em.
