My dogs have been raising cain tonight. They have been barking off and on for an hour or two. Sometimes when they bark I go and check the yard to see what they are barking at, but I have not tonight.
Armadillos keep tearing up the yard. In places there are so many holes it hurts to look at it. The weather has been dry and they are digging deeper to get to the grubs and insects that they eat. So far they have not dug up the vegetable beds that I have planted, but I know it is only a matter of time. The armadillos are the only animals I can think of that I would want to kill. It is going to take me forever to fill up the hundreds of holes they have dug.
Getting back to the subject; the dogs will bark at anything that gets near the pen. We have coons and possums that come every night to eat the cat food we leave out. They don't usually come and go around the dog's pen. If they did they would not be around it long. Sometimes one of the cats will be close enough to get them to barking. I believe that one of the cats likes to tease the dogs by staying around the pen every now and then.
It is so exasperating to get dressed, get the gun and shells, get the flashlight and go outside to find a cat near the pen or not to find anything. This has happened several times. If the dogs just bark a short time, I don't pay any attention. The armadillos stay and dig and dig. When the dogs continue to bark you think it might be an armadillo. If it is I should go out.
Tonight they continued to bark. "Maybe it's a 'diller' I thought." I left the computer and started to get dressed. The dogs quit barking. I went back to the computer. They started barking again. I thought; "not again." I gave them a few minutes and they continued to bark. I got up and they quit barking. I thought; "fool dogs stay shut up unless that 'diller' comes."
The third time the dogs started barking I said to myself; "I'm not getting up again." The dogs would not quit barking. I got up, got dressed, grabbed the shotgun and some shells, got the flashlight and got almost to the door and they quit barking.
I kept my clothes on this time and have been on the computer for about thirty minutes and so far no barking. If they start I don't know if I will go outside to check or not.

Dog-think, "Can we get him out here tonight? Let's bark!"
Love it ;)
Marilyn, sometimes I wonder if you are not right. That or a cat doing it on purpose.
I keep them feed good, Nancy. They should not be hungry.
After a while I opened the closet because it was just getting on my nerves. I grabbed a broom in case it was a mouse or something. When I opened the door, I swear it was at that very second, he just yawned, stretched and went into the other room as if saying, "Well, that was fun, gotta go to sleep now." LOL
In any case, I hope you find out what it is soon. That kind of thing can really make a person irritable. I know it would for me.
Another plus is that this stuff kills fleas, too. And since fleas spread tapeworms, among other bad things..... :o)
(I haven't had to treat a dog for fleas/put on a flea collar for about 10 yrs now, ever since I started treating the ground for grubs/insects.)
I'm not a huge fan of widespread insecticide use, but grubs were destroying our grass, and moles were making huge tunnels everywhere trying to eat all the grubs!
Plus, I cannot live with spiders coming into the house in the Fall, when the weather turns cold. %^}
If you decide to go this route, just read the bag to be sure it kills the types of grubs/insects you need it to kill....and follow the directions concerning fish and birds, and keepign the dogs off of the grass until rain water or sprinkler water soaks it all into the ground.
