Country Classics : Rural Ohio In Pictures
George Corneliussen
In celebration of the upcoming holiday, here is a small collection of classic American cars that are still on the road and being driven by the country folk who own them.
While they most likely will soon pass the way of other icons of our past, it's not hard to imagine what these beauties looked like in the fifties and sixties when they first rolled down the very roads they do today.

Happy Fourth Of July !

How many times did the family "go visitin'" in this beauty ?

Joe's Dad's Car

Joe ( no spring chicken himself) is sellin' dad's car because "It's that time".

They bought this car to drive to church every Sunday, and they still do.

Don't remember the guy's name, but he told me that his grandpa has been drivng this since it was new.

These are great photos. Love the 4th of July one. Thanks for sharing these. I wish all the US members of Gather a safe 4th of July. Canada Day is July 1st, but I will be in the good old USA for both holidays.
I'm proud to say I've owned three of these "lead sleds" at different points in my life and miss them all.
A most happy 1st and 4th to you. Big car memories for everyone, I'm buyin' !
I have to agree with you on the generic look of today's cars. These days , "The Big Three" are white, silver, and, beige.
If that's the car we're drivin,' bring a red-checkered tablecloth, paper plates, lemonade, charcoal, charcoal grill, cooler, a picnic table, two benches, a badminton set, and enough food for four. I just checked the truck and there's plenty of room in it for all of that and more.
Thanks, they do bring a smile; don't they ?
This part of the state is loaded with old cars in great shape and even more loaded with classic hot rods restored to perfection.
Oh, the humanity !
kinda of fond of chevy 57, that white thinkg looks like an impala
I have that American love affair with cars. Thanks so much for posting these memory-makers.
I thought about it, but decided the focus should be on the "people" side of them not the "technical" side. You can find years for all of these by doing an image search on Google or Alta Vista and entering something like "Buick" 19 and scrolling through until you find a match.
While the current gas situation definitely calls for smaller, more fuel-efficient cars, these old beauties deserve to be honored.
My pleasure, more than happy to share.
You welcome !
My sisters husband gave my son a 56 Olds two tone (green/white) hardtop. He had the coolest car at his high school, (Graduated 1995)
These are great photos and so nice that you can tell us something about some of the owners. .
No doubt your son will remember that car fondly for the rest of his life.
Thanks, glad you liked them.
