It was blazing hot here in southern Ontario this afternoon. We have set records for the last two days. Today, at peak heat it was 41Celsius with the humidex. I'm guessing about 110 F.
After dinner, I decided to take a stroll. There was a nice breeze and it wasn't so scorching hot as it had been in the afternoon. Come along and see what I saw.
A beautiful pink peony is coming out in my garden. I even got a picture of the ant that was busy at work, but when I inserted it into the article, it looked terrible. So, I've deleted that one.
Near the peony is my red Oriental poppy. They won't last long in this heat, but they are beautiful.

Then, I headed across the street to the park where the stream runs through. There's a little foot bridge over the stream.

On the way back to the house, I spotted our neighbor's Sheltie, Simba, cooling off on the grass. What a shame that they've shaved him. He's so cute when he has his long collie coat. He is 11 years old, but when he's shaved, he looks like a puppy.

Then, I crossed the street to my own yard and there was Meeko. He wasn't happy that I'd gone for a walk without him. Here he is scolding me.

He finally settled down in the grass to cool off. I tried to coax him inside, but he turned his head and paid me no mind.

I'm not sure how these photos are going to turn out. I've never inserted photos in an article before, but this will give you some idea of what goes on around this neighborhood. Oh, I almost forgot the beautiful poppies outside my neighbor's fence. They have spread out of her yard and now grow wild along the stream. They are gorgeous.

I hope some of these turned out well enough that you can enjoy them. I gave it my best try. I did see several red-winged blackbirds along the way, as well as robins that were looking for worms in the grass. However, I couldn't get close enough to get a good picture of any of them tonight.
Well, they're not great, but you can tell what they are, so I'm going to leave them. I think the problem is that I've edited them and they are too small. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very appreciative.

Oh Pam, it does get hotter than hades here, but not usually at this time of year. This is July and August weather and even then it is hot for that time of year. We usually run about 90 to 95 at the warmest in those months, but the last two years it's been bad. They are predictiing a VERY hot and dry summer for southern Ontario this summer. And we need rain.
I think you can dowload picasa basic for free.
Kathryn, Thanks for the support. Yes, Meeko looks bent out of shape in more ways than one. LOL He was really ticked that I hadn't taken him with me. Usually, he gets to go. He calmed down fairly quickly.
Everything here is green and beautiful, but if this heat continues, it will be brown and bare. We are to get rain tonight. Hopefully, that will happen. Water levels are very low. We had little snow in winter and not much rain earlier in the spring.
Beautiful dog, does he always need the muzzle ?
As far as your pictures go, If you reduce the size of them before you publish them, they'd probably look fine.
About 550 pixels (length or width) is a good size to start with.
George, Thanks for the comment on Meeko. What he's wearing isn't a muzzle, but a Gentle Leader. We only put it on him when we're not out with him. It keeps him under control by pushing on the back of his neck if he gets rambunctious - like a mother correct a puppy. He's had it for 6 years. He doesn't wear it all the time and can eat and drink with it on. He's never offered to harm anyone. The thing he hates most in this world is the woodchuck that lives along the stream in the park.
Donna, I'm glad you enjoyed the stroll.
Thank you both for your comments.
i was so happy to see meeko and all the flowers - lovely! i esp love peonies - thank you!
Thanks for the help. I always love your photos and hope to get some good ones to share between now and fall. Thanks for visiting.
