on saturday, we went over to saugatuck, to visit with lake michigan. oh, this is one of my favorite places in the whole world. always, always, it gives me peace.
it was incredibly windy saturday evening, so my visions of lillie playing in the sand, and sitting and watching the sunset were slightly changed. i sat behind an umbrella, to shield me from the sand constantly blowing. if you stood up, it was ok - the sand blew at ground level. but i need to sit, so....
there were few people on the beach - not even the usual dog walkers. too cold and windy!

the waves were gorgeous, with the sun reflecting upon them. a windsurfer would go out, go as far as the eye could see, speed back, and the go rest in his van. he went out several times - it was a joy to see him move like a bird.

ed and lillie played, and ran, and laughed. it was glorious. i doubt that anyone could come here and NOT be happy, elated at the bouyancy of life.

and at the end, we stood by our car, and just watched the sun set. dark rain clouds were moving in, and the air grew chill. our plans of stopping for a gelato were squashed. we went home and had a nice hot cup of cocoa, to warm up.

Thank you for sharing my friend.
This really brings back memories for me, since I grew up about twenty miles from Saugatuck. I love the beach when it's windy and wild like that.
Great pix! Thanks...for the memories.
Your photos bring back memories of one of my favorite places. Lillie is the cutest! I've taken many photos of my wanderings through the dunes. I particulaly liked your shot toward the inlet to the Kalamazoo River, as well as the crashing waves. I must take a close-up of them next time.
I love Oval Beach, too. Must go there this year again. I stay at the Park House if I stay overnight or for the weekend. Thanks for the memories. I'm so glad you shared your photos with us! G
Lillie is gorgeous; I love those chubby cheeks!
thanks for the photo comments! i can't imagine being landlocked. ugh. sorry!! i'll pay more attn next time, ok??
yes, always marshmallows in the cocoa! hey, di dyou know that a pack of cocoa (with marshmallows) tastes REALLY great over a bowl of vanilla ice cream? oh, yum....
carl - yes, it is cold. (yes, lillie loves you. you should be a gatherfather to her like nathan is!! haha. you're one of her biggest fans). inthe summer, the water can get into the 70s. definitely swimmable! most day s in the summer, you have to brace yourself, and then plunge in. you get used to it. but some summer days, it is just magically extra warm, and you can stay in for HOURS. those days are the best!!!
Beautiful. .. but I know Lake Michigan is way cold in May.
did you go to kazoo college, or western? such fun!
Thanks for taking us along (virtually). Can we go to the Big Two-Hearted River next? (Or how about the Fox River, where Hemingway really fished, but didn't want to share....)
martha - we're heading to our cottage this weekend, for memorial day. i am sure it'll be cold...
we went to grand bend, ontario, last summer. swimming in lake huron was much warmer than lake mi!! ah, give me the great lakes any day....
ed - thank you!! :)
david - isn't it surprising, that it looks like the ocean? whenever i go to the ocean, i'm always taken aback a little that it is salty. wild, eh?
nathan - well, just luck and talent, i guess. i take a LOT of pix. some don't turn out. some do. the outstanding ones rise to the top, quite clearly. i am so glad for digital cameras!!
