As adults we learn that all of the days can blend together into mush if you're not careful. Remember when summer vacation would fly by as kids no matter how hard you tried to savor each day? Running thru the woods, throwing water baloons, pool parties, BBQs. All of those fun things to fill the days.
So now in the big bad real world we fill our days with other things besides building tree forts. We build a family. We build a marriage. We build (and wreck) friendships. We lose touch with family and friends. We leave them on the side of the road by accident. And we keep on chuggin'.
So how do you fill your days so that they don't all blend together? You ever look back and wonder where the heck the week went?
Sometimes I go to get coffee at Peet's during lunch and walk around. Peet's is special because they are not on every corner like 4-Bucks or Dunkin'(places I frequent mind you, but sometimes a treat is nice).
Once in a while I go the back way to work (winding up thru North Framingham, into Wayland, Lincoln, Concord, into Bedford. I go this way because it gives me a chance to see Walden Pond and all of the historical mumbo-jumbo. As well as the tourists, my god the tourists. Plus seeing all of the kids on field trips makes me a little watery eyed because I used to love field trips (why does Grad school not include field trips?). My husband never got to go on field trips. He's never been to Washington DC, NYC (no excuse for that as we live in Boston)...he never went on a trip with HS Band (Disney!). Never did homework as far as I can tell. :)
So what do you do to make the day count? Do you go get an ice cream cone during lunch? Do you take a hike or a walk with your dog as you start your day? Do you play cards with friends? Do you walk up to the end of your street and watch the kids play wiffle ball? (me!)
No matter what you do, don't let the days blend together into mush...sometimes that gets a little too easy to do.

I find I spend too much time thinking about 'someday...', and we all know that someday never comes.
I saw a friend of mine speak last night and she talked about 'being present' and 'being activated'
When I read what you wrote the country song came into my head "If tomorrow never comes" :)
Sheryl,
You need to get out more. :) You'll live longer that way, trust me. :)
Although I did not walk during lunch I drove almost to New Hampshire (shhh) And the sunroof was open for fresh air distribution.
Thank you!
I love your tales about Lillie. :)
You are a great grandma and they are lucky to grow up near you as my only grandparents were accross the state. Enjoy your time with your grandsons. Have a great day.
