A colleague of mine said the other day that she tells her significant other to slow down when he's driving. The reason: To avoid an expensive speeding ticket.
Now sure, from time to time we are always monitoring our MPH's to make sure we don't get pulled over. But this colleague explained that now... with finances tightening, she has become far more vigilant.
It got us thinking in the newsroom -- how many other places are we avoiding risky behavior. Maybe we're not joining the softball team because of the possibility of injury.
Conversely, where are we TAKING risk to save money -- like upping insurance deductibles.
MPR has a survey that we're sending out to our Public Insight Network. Maybe you'd like to take a crack at it... click this link or paste in the address below.

Do we have to wait until after the election for the Democrats to crank down the "hate and fear" machine?
Working harder and working more hours because the construction economy is flat is needed too.
Saving money and living within my means while everyone else thinks they need a home theatre system on a credit card with a high interest rate.
Have you asked the people who "are trying to make ends meet" if they still buy $2-3 cups of coffee? $1 bottles of water? Drink tap water instead of bottled water or bottled drinks? Have cable TV? Have a widescreen TV? Eat out instead of preparing food at home? How many songs to they buy for their MP3 player? How many still buy $100 pro sports jerseys? How many spend $25 to have their finger nails painted? Buy scratch off's or lottery tickets? Go to the casinos?
I could think of a dozen more questions that you folks wouldn't think of asking.
You seem to have a lot of things going for you, to bad compassion is not one of them. The only thing I have that you listed is cable TV. So what am I, some idiot who is a "victim" or a guy who got caught in a bag situation and is doing his best to get out?
