And as before, we hope to get the Gather community in on the action!
If you had 30 seconds or so to explain a slice of American culture to a new immigrant, what would you say? It can be a lofty or a more mundane aspect of life in these United States. Consider these excerpts from a great web site called Life In The USA:
If you like to eat a lot of spicy foods, especially onions and garlic, or if you drink alcohol, be extra watchful that you don't offend Americans by having "bad breath."
It is permissible for an American to start a conversation with a stranger but the conversation should be immediately ended if the person does not seem to want to talk. Be especially careful not to force your attention on someone in a plane, train or bus.

You can make your suggestions here, on our web site, or -- perhaps best of all -- in audio form that we can actually play on the show. If you can record and encode an MP3, email it to me at jhorwich-at-mpr.org. You'll get full credit, of course!
We're also looking generally for your immigration stories and insights. Have you got an immigrant experience to share with us? As above, you can jot it here, visit the web site, or record a minute or two and attach an MP3 to an email. Surprise us!

"The U.S. is a glorious, beautiful mess of contradictory values.
Do a lot of people watching and take social cues from those around you that you respect. Follow the local news, you'll glean a lot about local issues and general thoughts from your neighbors. Oh, and sorry about that Hollywood dream thing."
Brief enough? That was actually a little fun...
