At 55, I find myself acting like my grand kids, to their parent's dismay. I have finally realized that what time that is left for me in this world is too short to not enjoy life the best I can. If that means flying a kite, playing hide n' seek or finger painting with the grand kids, I don't care if anyone minds because it really doesn't matter.
That is so true. Due to things going on in my family I grew up quick and now I have a 12 year old daughter and she loves that I will have fun with her. It's like a second chance at childhood for me.
Age has long been a measure for productivity and usefulness in our society and those deemed too old or too young have been relegated to anonymity or "holding cells" to see if their status will change. I have seen people relegated to the useless pile blossom into life and vitality just as soon as someone NEEDS them. We have so many people who are out-of-synch with our society due to age, culturalization, religious barriers, family dynamics, health problems and other variables that the "mainstream" is often a very narrow part of communities. And, sometimes it is only a self-restriction that keeps that door closed to being alive and useful again. You are very right, John Philipp, if you don't mind taking a chance, it doesn't matter what you try to make yourself either available or open to whatever comes your way.
You know something funny John? When I was 18, I said this to a 38-yr old woman in Mexico, ME and we embarked on a three month love affair. When I was 38, I said this to a 23 yr old girl in Socastee SC and we rolled through a six month love affair.
And now I'm so old, you're using my line as a thought byte. Go figure!
This pic reminds me of my mom when she visits my nephew in Tahoe California. And I recall my first visits with my grandma too! awesome memories. good work John, nicely done.
Absolutely.... my 16 year old son says I'm fun...so does my 95 year old neighbor to me that's whats important ...the enjoyment of life with any age group..
Bob B - That is the same attitude my dad has. I love it and so do the kids. He was always the one to get down on the floor and play/goof off with the grandkids.
"if you don't mind taking a chance, it doesn't matter what you try to make yourself either available or open to whatever comes your way."
Another facet of "mind."
Thanks, Donna.
Just because there are some things you can't do or they won't let you do doesn't mean there aren't more than enough opportunities for a satisfying and happy life.
I passed the window of opportunity to be a shortstop for the Yankees somewhere around first grade.
I don't mind my age but I have so many creaks and squeaks that people give me WD-40 instead of cologne.
My addled brain has prevented me from keeping up with Gather's change for the sake of change. I don't even know how to post an article anymore let alone find one to read.
Boy, if it didn't require putting on my orthotic support shoes and finding my cane to get up out of this rocker I'd give you a proper thrashing you whipper snapper...lol.
I never cared much about age. It's just a number to me. I certainly don't mind, telling everyone my age. I turned 31 this July 25th. Happy birthday to me!

It's an inevitable fact of life so we might as well enjoy it.
Have to agree with your point.
Thanks.

Good for you.
There is something revitalizing — mentally and physically — about getting down on the ground with a young child.
Monica, if it were only the other way around.
This Byte should be the decoration on the top of every birthday cake.
Kimber, I also feel young at heart but, to tell the truth, I'd like to lose a few years.
Not going to let age bother me, just saying...
JoAnne, what a nice twist on the word "mind."
Thanks for that.
Excellent facet, Tanya.
It also builds their self-esteem.
Cheri, then print this out and put it on the fridge.
Thanks, Atlantis. Great quote.
The trick with a cliché is to find the new meaning in the new context. It's familiarity will tend to force us into the old meaning.
Another facet of "mind."

I got over it.
Right you are, Judi.
Or, stuff you can't do anything about so why waste energy on it?

LMAO Barney.
Get with it, man. We don't post articles anymore, we "share." "Posting" is so June.
To publish an article click on "share" under "EXPLORE" and the rest is the same as before.
Among others, this was attributed to Satchel Paige.
Who you been talking to, Willis?
Seriously, this is another and important facet of this Byte.
Thanks.
(I think someone should write, "Ode to an Egg.")
Thanks for that.

Funny request but the woman is a permanent floor fixture.
