True or False- Tagged by Christine Zibas & Vicky D.

From reading other people's articles on "Truth or Dare" I guess I need to come up with five statements, four being true and one being false....so let me see......

1.  My birth certificate says my name is Robert Ketchen Mills.  I received a low draft number in the fall of 1967 which I immediately burned on Boston Common during a protest of the Vietnam War.

2.  For two years I lived on a farm in Southern California with two other couples, four kids and two dogs.  We grew hydroponic tomatoes and sold them to fancy restaurants on the coast.

3.  I have seen the band leader Dave Brubeck naked in a steambath.

4.  I was a novice for fourteen months in a Catholic nunnery, The Sisters of Divine Providence in Kingston, Mass.

5.  In one summer I traveled to 52 National Parks in the USA.

 

That's it folks...which one is false?

OK...I'm back from cleaning my classroom and filing my reports at school....and it looks as though some people are right....and I think you have to fess up after ten people have responded......so the false statement is that I was a novice for 14 months....Debbie, Tonia, Lisa and Wilma are the grand winners of Truth and Dare! But then of course, they have been reading my articles almost from Day 1....

I did spend a three day week-end in a convent in my senior year of high school....my favorite high school nun thought I had the qualities of being a good nun...little did she know!!!!

Ron...it's easy doing 52 National Parks in a summer...when both adults are teachers and they have the summers off...we have criss-crossed this country so many times ....but especially when each of the three boys hit the big 10! A Gold Card is a must!
What a blob! I thought Sister Elizabeth of the Order of Divine Providence had a nice ring about it - bride of Christ and all that. Is it too late for you to run away and join the convent?

Oh your so funny Magi. But honestly, Sister Johnette, my American History teacher invited three girls to the convent for a long week-end....two actually woke me up the second night to tell me that they truly had a vocation...then all these nuns came around to celebrate...it was all kind of funny....I was just laughing on the inside. This is definitely not the place for me!

What can I say Patry...my Dad wanted boys...he named my oldest sister Francis Xaviar Mills, Jr....notice Francis with the male "is" not "es". And me he named Robert Ketchen Mills after his favorite brother who was not home from WWII...Uncle Bobby took a long time in Tahiti on his way home. So in the fall of '67 I got my draft number....very low draft number...if I had really been a boy I probably would have been on the next ship going over...

Laurun....every summer, just like the wind, we would plan these cross country trips. In the early days, we just loaded up the volkswagon bus with the mattress in the back and wander this great country...since Bill's folks were in San Francisco and later in Tacoma....cross country was a have-to. Along the way we would stop at Mesa Verde, Zion, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Joshua Tree, Rocky Mountain, St. Helens, you name it. The boys knew right from the start...2 meals a day...fruit in between....no souveniers except the pictures in the minds...we traveled cheap...really cheap. The year we did 52 National Parks we spent a little less then $1200. ' Course we had friends from Alaska who were back in the states...so that helped with a bed off the road...clean sheets and a real meal.

Amanda...even the idea of me in a nunnery brought a belly laugh from me! I was just reading Beryl's book and thought, "sure, I can include that"...people just might believe it since I was a Jesuit Volunteer!

#4 is the nunnery, Elsie....definitely not that....I'd be like Maria singing "....the hills are alive with music" though without the voice.....#3 was seeing old Mr. David, minus his instrument, naked in a steam bath in Fairbanks, Alaska. Wrote an article about that in early February or so.
