Most of us have hair. Mine has been tortured for years. These locks have been through braids, bangs, spit curls, rag rollers, spoolies, dippity-do, sponge rollers, orange juice cans, ironing, hydrogen pyroxide, New Dawn, Clairol Natural Instincts, Henna, corn rows. It's been shaved, permed, cut into Luziana waterfalls aka mullets, mohawks, teased into love locks and bleached. Through it all, my hair has miraculously survived. Today, thanks to kelp supplements and a healthy lifestyle, it looks pretty good. I'm often accused of dying it because I have a natural streak which is an unusual shade. I've grown it out and it's been long. I decided recently that a trip to the hair salon was a priority before summer.
I don't have a regular hair dresser. Most of my trims became cuts and I never went back. I've asked around and found out that DeCut has a talented hairstylist from Austria named Hans. I checked him out. He was a tall over forties man with long hair. Many of the women in the shop have long hair. I made an appointment. Today was the big day. Hans sat me down and talked to me. He told me I had great hair, he would cut it in layers, leave the length in a style he calls Shaggy Chic. Eerie, from Tokyo, washed my hair and gave me the best head massage I've ever had. It did wonders for my confidence and mood.
Hans knew what he was doing. It didn't take him long. Eerie then blew dry my hair and hot combed it. Then, Hans cut it again further layering it. I want you to know that I absolutely love it. It's still long but frames my face. I think it knocked off a couple of years. No bad hair day for me today! I felt absolutely on top of the world. You know there is nothing like looking updated to feel good. I'm sure many of you have the after Winter woes and need a treat. Having your hair restyled is probably one of the best gifts you can give yourself. If you have a new do, or a bad hair experience, I'd love to hear it. Many of us could write volumes about our hair, but I just want to hear your best story! Thank you. Salud.

Thank god that I keep mine short, less to straighten, and less to get in my way!
As it turned out, I didn't have to have chemo and my hair has been growing ever since and I am really really really wanting to go short.
You've given me incentive to go to the shop and get a chop.
I have not had my hair very long since then. My mother thought it would be cute permed so a girl that she worked with gave me a perm....she was in beauty school. It looked cute the first week, then it frizzed out.
Now I have to dye it to keep the grays from showing. I tend to let my emotions show through my hair. If I am upset, I get it cut short short....
Oh now we have Stephen - whose photo I'm going to take for his back cover on his new novel. I forget the name but hopefully it will be published soon! Thanks Stephen you've got a great head. lol Salud.
I'm confident you look great; just another metamorphosis in your excitng life.
The Colonel doesn't have bad hair days. About every six months Big Molly goes at me with a #3 shear and I'm good for another six.
Cheers,
Colonel Possum
Miz Lynx - I want to see a picture - lol - you have me laughing here with that three stranded thing - how do yall do that???? So funny - that's what my head should look like - lol...
So I shared your experience. Salud
Just yesterday, a friend of mine reminded me of my worst hair cut experience by having almost the same one.
When I was 11 my best friend and I got matching outfits for our school picture. We thought we looked very much like sisters in our green Nehru dresses and our long brown hair, which was exactly the same shade. The day before pictures my mom insisted, despite much, much protest by me, that I go with my sisters to the salon for a trim. My mom likes her hair to be no longer than 1-inch long and wanted us girls to want the same thing. I told her over and over there's no way I was going to look like a boy for pictures. I just plain old wasn't going to go to the salon. (You have to understand that we were all afraid of my mom, so the fact that I was flat out refusing to go says something about how strongly I felt about keeping my long hair). My mom promised me that I could tell the woman how to cut it and have the style I wanted. She promised me that the woman wouldn't cut it short if that's what I told her. So, I got in the seat and told the woman, just trim a little bit. We discussed styles and I think she told me she would feather the sides or something, and I agreed that would be okay as long as the back was long. I had taken along my Tiger Beat magazine and so was off in teen hunk heaven while the stylist cut my hair. That's the only explanation I have for why I didn't notice. Before I knew it she said, "Okay, done. What do you think?" She had cut my hair into what they called a pixie cut....Think Peter Pan as played by Sandy Duncan or Mary Martin! I was so irate. I was a fairly mild-mannered kid back then, but I let the woman have it. She told me my mother had called and told her I wanted it long, but she should cut it short. I was so mortified. I hate those pictures to this day and think I only have one wallet-sized copy of. My best friend was crushed that I had gotten my hair cut until I explained the whole story to her. Then, we both agreed my mom was an idiot. It actually is one of the worst memories of my school years.
This year, I had grown my hair down to my waist and then, on New Year's Day, had it chopped up to my neck so I could donate it to Locks of Love. I've decided to go ahead and let it grown and then, next year, I'll do it again. That will be my New Year's tradition.
Bob, I'll start with you and make sure I comment on everyone's wonderful experience.
I want to hear the whole scoop of you and Laurun and see pictures. Hair solutions when the wind blows are hats and scarves or a nice braid - other than that, you may want to go layers so there's less whipping around your face.
Miz Jessie - Oh I loved your comment!!! Can I ever relate to that one. I went to a Vidal Sassoon salon in Atlanta and the same thing happened and I was an adult by then - 70's I was in early 20's. I know I know - Vidal Sassoon was known for short saucy cuts but I guess I was over 70'd out or just plain naive. I hung my head out of the window all the way back to my apartment - sick as a dog - everyone loved it though.
Why don't you post the picture, Miz Jessie. I would love to see it and sometimes it's good therapy to post pictures of yourself as a kid - ie can you see me at five over there in my icon lol...
Anyway, thanks bunches because that is one great story and congratulations on Locks of Love. My hair has always been so processed that I was unable to do that - maybe this year! Great tradition!! (more later) need Coffee and have to take my car to the Garage (it's right across from Oprah's SB digs!) brb
Part of my problem is my hair has gotten so thin since they put me on a blood thinner a few years back.
I love all the hair cut stories here. Now I don't feel so bad. I hope in June I can get something decent.
and i don't want to hear any excuses - just show us a picture of this new doo, miz boo!
Ah well, I'm not about to go and "have it done!" Not my style, I'm afraid. But I do understand how pleasant it is for someone to pamper your personal pride and treasure. Felicitations!
Bob - how does your day go? I'll check on your side of the fence as soon as I can get over there!
Miz Ina - hey I used to be in the shop once a month and girl, my hair went through lavish changes - I kinda miss those days - looking for pics to post now - love your comment! I bet you're tons of fun to hang around with! Yall need to come to Nawlins and party someday!
Charles that ain't my house or helmut - I kinda clean up my place once in a while. lol... Salud, more later.
I love your hair Miz Audrey - have you considered just going to a barber - they probably would love to cut it as short as you want it!!! Thanks for commenting - always nice to see you! Salud.
I think I'll change my name to Tomi, I'll never be afraid in the dark again:)
Miz Briane I tried the link but it didn't work! I'll check it out later.
Miz Lauren, no but I wished I had gone to beauty school, I love to redo folks.
Miz Debbie - imagine all that iodine!! Some folks need it and some don't.
Miz Vicky - yes, I've had several razor cuts and if they know what they're doing it can look fantastic - many prefer scissors as in a way it's less evasive to the hair ends. All in all it depends on the shape of your head and your hair texture. Some processed hair is too damaged by razor cutting. Thanks yall Salud.
Bob, oh I bet it looks great - I was thinking a big of layering would look good as well...I'm glad you had it done - your probably feel great! Thanks for commenting ladies! Salud.
Hugs ~roxanne~
When I walked through the door at home, my father's eye's bugged out.
"What?" I asked. "Does it look awful? Dad, is it horrible?"
He collected himself.
"Its a different look for you."
Aaaargh! I ran to the bathroom see what it really looked like now that it was all dry. It was worse than I even imagined. It didn't turn out well. My body wave looked like Horshack's hair from Welcome Back Kotter.
I have never had a perm since and never will.
Did you hear about the woman who rinsed her hair with fabric softener right after she got a perm? It fell out, ya think? She tried to sue...but lost the case. Her only excuse was that she wanted her hair to feel soft. Duhhhhh.
