Today we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. I got married in Las Vegas on January 2, 1982. We chose the Candlelight Wedding Chapel and a non-denominational minister. When our turn came up, they first put in our credit card to make sure it checked out and then put in Karen Carpenter's, We've Only Just Begun. Right before I got to the altar, Here Comes the Bride floated from the rickety tape player. I wore a black outfit with three zippers going every which way. We both wore brand new Tony Llama Western boots. Our minister was fire and brimstone and I could tell by the look in his eyes, he hated my red blinking earrings. The head thing I had picked out kept falling over - it was about three inches of baby's breath. I couldn't stop laughing but pretended I was crying from joy. My future husband had tears in his eyes - real tears. After the whole hoopla was over, I called mama. She must have not quite grasped what I said or was in shock. She started talking about my niece's sinus infection. Oh well. My husband and I drank a bottle of champagne in our room - just the two of us. The last 25 years have been filled with many adventures. That's another story. Now, it's your turn. Have you been married 25 years or more? Tell us all about it, please! Salud.

funny but now that we have been living apart i am coming to realize that once you got kids together you are always going to be married in some way,
children mean you are always bonded in some special way and there is no way to really get away from that..
i remember my parents 25th anniversary though.
some people are just meant to be together, others just stumble and fall,
and i guess it really does not matter how fancy shmancy your wedding is, what counts is holding on , surviving the bumps on the road.
reading this i think, man , that is THE way to marry!
so how did you celebrate your anniversary?
Congratulations Marianna, in this day and age your marriage is a rarity and proves to the younger generation it can be done!!!
That's the funniest thing I've read in weeks!
Sigalit,
we have a special cave near a little town called Eureka, Nevada. Every year we leave a message in a wine bottle. This year when we went up all the bottles were gone so our message was in a mason jar - easy to unscrew and read the message. We hope someone writes us. It is a cave that is very hard to find but someone must have. We celebrated by driving out there with our three dogs and just being in awe of Mother Nature. Very quiet - serene - filled with silence. We are blessed. Salud,
John - I know that each of those 49 years and 11 months were very special to you and your wife! Salud,
It is the giving of oneself and all the angels in heaven to help in a marriage. Like a plant, it must be nourished or it dies.
Chuckles and I have been married soon-to-be 33 years! When did that happen??? :) An old traditional Slavic wedding; although I kept taking my veil off~or should I say it just kept sliding off??? :) My mama wanted to beat me with the Kolache! :)
I wanted to be married in a field with my horse nearby...my mama is stronger willed than I...:) Anyhow, here we are in our little non-traditional cottage nearly 33 years later...a good glass of vino and a cold beer...:)
Lots of love, light, and blessings~Mama T
Ginger, yes, indeed that counts for sure - congratulations! Tom, Nancy is one lucky lady! Please give her my best! Miz Mama T. - there you are - this is the second comment I've made from up here. I think there are too many hawks on the phone lines because my comments aren't showing up - Love your marriage story and Chuckles sounds like a great guy - Everytime you make a comment, Mama T., I want to hear more of the story and all the details about the marriage and the cottage - and ditto on the wine and beer! Miz Dorine, your life sounds like a beautiful fairy tale - from the very beginning. I am glad that you have so many lovely memories but I can imagine how very lonely you are without Stuart. Many blessings and I hope things are going well for you now. To everyone, I am on a slow dial up but will return to comment on your comments soon! Salud,
I just went to a wedding for my sister in Las Vegas at The Little White Chapel last month. Did you know they have drive through weddings there, you don't even get out of the car. I watched a couple while waiting to go inside for my sister's, which was held live on the Internet as well, ha ha. People could watch from home on their PC!
Take care.
"Galahad" and I celebrated our 25th anniversary last September, and I agree with all the commenters above: it requires a sense of humor to make it this far.
Hubby and I will celebrate 37 years April 20th and it has been a good marriage so far.
Wow John S. I'm amazed but not surprised! John S. the husband is from there too -He went to a boy's school. Jennine, congratulations! Remind us when it comes up -Madame Donna C. no, never seen it but heard about it!!! Hi there Liz! Congratulations to you and yours as well! I'll be back to comment later yall! Happy Weekend! Salud,
my folks will celebrate 59 years in may
Okay , I am off my soap box now .
We will celebrate our 42nd anniversary on April 11th.
yea well believe me I went through the whole pre-cana ritual too - the first time I was engaged and all that humbug - so glad I didn't have anything traditional -nothing against it - I think it's great and fine and lovely and memorable but it twern't me! Did you read my story about getting married? It's somewhere in my articles. You're inspiring me to dig up some old pictures! hahah the good ole days - don't you love them! I sure enjoyed reading about how the best man wore a cordoroy jacket and everyone hitchhiked. You shoulda seen the looks in my hometown eyes when we showed up in old green army pants and backpacks right off the grayhouse bus after our trip to Mexico and Belize...more later! Salud.
Seriously though....felicitones!
That is a beautiful testament to love that endures!!! Bless you both.
Miz elizabeth! Thanks you - always good to hear from you! Salud.
