One of our kitten Rusty's favorite types of toys is bottle caps from beer or soda bottles. He loves chasing them across the floor because of the noise they make and the way they slide across hard surfaces. This morning he accidentally batted his bottle cap underneath the front of the refrigerator, and he wasn't able to reach underneath to get it out. So, he laid down in front of the fridge staring at where he knew his toy was, longing for it.
Since it was the morning and I was rushed as usual, I went about my business figuring that he'd forget about the cap or get distracted by something else. About 45 minutes later, the poor guy was still there. Still staring underneath the fridge.
Feeling sorry for him, I found a piece of newspaper which I ran underneath the fridge hoping to free his toy. After a few swipes I wasn't able to retrieve the cap he was looking for, but I did get a plastic bottle cap from a bottle of water. I hoped this would satisfy him, but only the original, metal bottle cap would do. A few minutes later I found it and tossed it into the dining room for him, where it would be safe from the fridge.
Anything for a happy kitten (especially one recovering from tail surgery).

Now that she's older she just looks at the things I throw but occasionally will go after that paper..;)
