The Delaware Valley Daylily Society Flower Show
was held on Saturday July 18th from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. in the ballroom at Longwood Gardens.

The show, was free with our general admission and was an exciting opportunity to view many rare and beautiful daylilies that were entered into the competition.

Daylilies are said to be the perfect sun perennial and are available in many sizes and shapes and in almost any color except true blue. They’re suitable for most climates, soil types and landscapes. They require very little care, being drought resistant and almost disease and insect-free.
True to its name, the flower lives for only one day. However, because of the many buds on the plant, the daylily can bloom for weeks.

The daylilies were grouped by form and size, from extra large blooms measuring 7-inches or more in diameter to miniature flowers of less than 3-inches. More than 60,000 cultivars have been registered to date, so we got to see lots of varieties.

The Delaware Valley Daylily Society consists of about 200 Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware gardeners who enjoy growing daylilies and sharing tips. The show was an American Hemerocallis Society-accredited flower show. AHS is a non-profit organization established exclusively for educational and scientific purposes.

Best of all when the show ended at 5pm they offered the flowers to visitors to take home, so not ony did I get to enjoy them for the Day but they should fill my home with their beauty for another week. I am estatic!
