I've been using Photoshop as a part of my job on a daily basis for the last 9 years, but mostly for web applications. Within the last year, I've become very interested in photography and am looking to improve my Photoshop skills in that area. I recently got a very good comment about the "flatness" of an image of Hradcany I posted a while back. I had converted it from a color digital into greyscale and the result was very flat. So, now with my recent upgrade to CS3 and some knowledge I've picked in digital photography books, I decided to try the conversion again. I'm posting two versions below and would love to know which one you prefer.
Original with no post processing:
Both versions were cropped and slight adjustments were made to the saturation and brightness.
Version 1: Converted to B&W with a Green Filter
Version 2: Converted to B&W with a high-contrast red filter with slight tinting.
Thanks, Spartan, for the recommendation!

I haven't seen you around in awhile!
Of the two, I think I prefer the 1st version. Although, I would probably reduce the saturation on the original image to almost eliminate all color, and then adjust the levels to add more definition to the image...but each of the options above evokes a different feeling and perspective.
Hmmm... but I like version 2 as well...
What/where is a "hradcany"?
I like the first image. The second is too dark and not enough contrast for my taste. The third is too yellow and dark for my taste. If you are going for monotone in the sepia range, I'd suggest lighten up and add a bit of magenta. Just enough to "warm" the tones.
