Evan Almighty Contest - Go Zero, Go Green - Win a Tree and a Prize Pack

The filmmakers of Evan Almighty worked with the Conservation Fund of Washington D.C. to plant 2,050 trees in Virginia and California to "zero out" the carbon emissions made from the production of the movie. To compliment this effort, the website www.getonboardnow.org was launched as an online destination for users to buy and plant trees to slow the effects of global warming. To help zero out carbon emissions, Gather would like to buy trees to dedicate in your name!

How it works: Gather will make an online donation to the Conservation Fund. The Conservation Fund will then plant a tree as part of its "Go Zero" program. As the trees grow, carbon dioxide will be absorbed! This in turn helps eliminate our carbon emissions that are emitted from our every day activities such as powering our buildings and driving cars. With each donation, Gather will dedicate each tree planted to one Gather member.

I'm appalled by the advertising email you folks have sent to Gather members. You don't have to dedicate a tree to me. It's a nice thought, though.

(okay, I may be called a suck-up, but...) I joined the National Arbor Day Foundation on Arbor Day this year, and got 10 trees. I have them planted around my house. In answer to your question, I'd like to plant it in Hawaii, because I'd love to go there! But if you plant one for me, plant it in any National Forest, so that it won't cut down prematurely. (hopefully)

I would almost say I would plant the tree in Australia because I would love to visit down under! But since they seem to have so many trees there anyways, I think I would instead plant it in a city. I think I'd like to plant one in the middle of Time Square!

I have been a member of the Arbor foundation for many years. Over th elast 35 years I have personally planted over 350 pines and spruce trees. That does not include my landscaping business plantings.

If I could have a tree planted, I would ask that one was planted in the place where My Mom and her sisters and brothers grew up. There were 14 of them, and a tree planted in recognition of their wonderful lives, and their love for people would truly be wonderful. As each of their lives blossomed into natural beauty, and they brought so many people into this world and taught them to love one another, and to give more than you take, then it would truly be appropriate to plant a tree that will give their memories shade, and make this world a little cleaner, a little brighter, and a little more appreciated.

I think I would plant a tree in one of the deforested areas of West Virginia or Kentucky. Several areas have been stripped by mining, and just one tree, with time, could repopulate the area with wildlife, greenery, and beauty.

I would say we should plant more trees anywhere in America since we are the ones who seem to be doing the most damage. Starting in DC to set an example of how we can all go green and make this world a better place to live in. I was given a tree seeding upon graduation of college and it is still growing strong.

Hello to all,

I would plant my tree in the Office of the President in the White House. Why you ask? Let me tell you.

The beauty of the tree could make our President want to do anything to save our planet from harm (stop wars, stop global warming, force car makers to improve their products, etc.).

Our President could learn to nurture something other than his rich friends and contributors.

MOSTLY, the tree would process out the unusually high levels of carbon dioxide spewed in the room, convert it to cool rich oxygen that could result in our President having better brain function.

Hell, just make the tree President. It couldn't hurt.

I would plant trees in the Rainforests which are being destroyed at an incredible rate, and taking many species of animals with them.

We have so many places that are stripped bare for many reasons. Our population grows at unfathomable rates. The housing demands always a constant. Rural areas dissipate daily as suburbia floods over gobbling up what was green. 21 years ago when trees had to be cleared for my home to be built, trees were replanted later that year for each one that was removed from the land. My children have learned to do this as well thankfully. If you take from nature, replace it, as my eldest son recently did at his new home. We are stewards. We are responsible.

Plant a tree outside a finished construction project. Plant a tree along the median of a highway. Plant a tree on a burnt piece of land from one of the devastating forest fires. Just plant a tree because you care enough to plant the tree, please.

I would plant trees near Asotin Idaho. In 1996 I helped plant 1,000 trees along with the Seniors and 3rd graders of the Asotin Public Schools. I would like to see how the trees are doing and if I can help grow more. I realize this is a suck up but it did make me think.

I would plant a tree in the rain forest , to replace the old trees that are dying out. This would aid the forest in restoring a natural habitat for a large variety of species.

I've planted many a tree but if i had to pick a specific place--now that's a hard one with the global deforestation that some human beings seem hell bent on--hmm lets say Brazil, or anywhere in the shrinking amazon-i like Debbie C.'s answer--my own yard sounds really good--just try and cut it down.

I would first research and find the place that needs shade and water. Than I would want to plant a tree that would attract water to it and also would give shade.

I want to have a tree planted in a rainforest. The reason behind this is because everytime a tree is cut down, especially in the rain forest, our quality of living goes down. Trees help filter out our air, to make it breathable. have you noticed the amount of people with athsmatic/emphasima/copd problems? It is on the rise. From smoking, and from the deforestation. 3 of my 4 kids have breathing issues, and no one in my house smokes. I want to be able to live healthy, and breath strong. i want the residents of the world to be able to breath clean fresh air. And in order to do this, we need to replenish the rainforests!

I would travel to the top of mount everest and plant one there. I'm sure it would have trouble growing, but if it did grow up, not only would it be king of the world, but it would be very difficult for someone to cut it down.

I once visited a large city in a European country and didn't expect to see the shanty town of cardboard and tin homes that stretched for what seemed like miles... I'd plant trees near an area like that. I'm sure they could use some shade that won't blow away in the next storm.

I'd like to plant a tree, and knowing that trees symbolize so many things, such as life, love, health, healing, grace, longevity, durability, hope and liberty, I would plant the tree in Los Angeles, California.

I believe that people are so caught up in the world of entertainment that they fail to realize how much our world is at stake if we continue to contaminate it and Hollywood has a massive influence on America.

I believe if it is made a big point there and is stressed more on television, the world just may begin to change. I thank you all for reading this and giving the opportunity for someone to inspire the world and have recognition for it.

I would plant a tree in Hollywood, California in honor of H J Whitley. I would plant it on the corner of Highland and Hollywood Boulevard. He had originally planted trees on the boulevard because he and his wife Gigi were the first ecologist in Hollywood.

I would go to Greensburg, KS and plant a tree. The town was destroyed by a tornado earlier this year and could use some new trees among other things. It would help the air by planting new trees for them while they rebuild the town.

I would plant one (or more) in all the new developments that are tree-less (cracker-jack houses) in the suburbs of large cities....if I had to choose, I would choose a suburb south of Minneapolis, MN (where I have to drive through at times)or Trailer Parks to make their community seem more private and appealing!

I'd like to plant a tree in Jamaica outside the tiny tiny (I'm not kidding) tiny hut of the one legged man on crutches who was weedwhacking in the park. When I see lazy people here, I always think of him. Jobs are hard to come by there and even with one leg, he got out there to work and support himself, doing whatever he could. He deserves a nice big shade tree.

I'd also like to plant a tree in my own state, Washington, to promote real healthy forests, not the fake "Healthy Forest Initiative" our stupid, shortsighted president is supporting.

Just think what he could have done for the environment in this country and others if he'd used all that money to plant trees and find other energy sources instead of using it to send thousands of young Americans to their death in a pointless war.

I would plant a tree in the Negev. Israel has demonstrated that they can make the desert come to life. They have shown that hard work and determination enabled them to grow plants and flowers in an arid soil. They developed irrigation techniques, experimented freely to purify waste and sea water to be used in farming. All this is done while under constant attacks by Arabs, who wish to destroy them, and take over what Israelis have created. Arabs burn the trees the Jewish National Fund plants in an attempt to turn back the clock, and have the area become a wasteland again. Planting a tree is a fitting reward to show our appreciation for their efforts. jsrson

I live in the Hi Desert of Southern California. Here we have fresh clean air, but occasionally some of the smog drifts up over the pass, and the wind spreads it up here. Many people live here because of health reasons, and we'd like to keep the air filtered, and free from smog. Trees are a great way to help accomplish that, so we would love to have you plant one here. (A little shade helps too)
