Did you know that Gather has a new award program, called
Gather 'Mug Shots'?
One member/group is selected each week (well, sort of)
...and there have already been two announced (and unheralded) recipients!
They are:
Mug Shots Winner: Stephen McAllister for image "Stirling Castle" (August 29)
Mug Shots Winner: Donna C. for "Howling Over the Lake" (August 15)
Gather Says:
"Each week the Gather Editorial Team will select one piece of content (article or image) or one group to receive a custom Gather coffee mug. All winners will be asked to photograph themselves with the mug and their photo will be subsequently posted next to their winning piece or group and featured on the Gather Mug Shots group page."

I think that this is an EXCELLENT idea. There is a significant amount of content, groups, and activity on Gather that may otherwise not receive their due acclaim. A little recognition for our time, effort and dedication can go a LONG way. So, a tip of the ol' mug goes to Gather for implementing this program!
Hopefully, we will see a good mix of content, as well as activity, rewarded in this manner. There are a lot of members and groups that contribute to the Gather community that wouldn't necessarily be 'featured' by the Editorial Staff through other means. Also, I would like to see the recipient chosen, and announced, within a shorter span of time, and at a consistent, designated day of the week.

On the serious side - who is doing the awarding and through what means - the newsletter, a group or the home page?
It seems odd that you weren't notified by Gather when the announcement was made (since it was published two weeks ago).
