Still awaiting my copy of "Garage Sale America" to arrive, so I can do the requested book review for Gather; I give you part I, the Video.
"Garage Sale America" was written by Bruce Littlefield; and he appeared this morning on "The Today Show" to help the viewers recycle items from garage sales.
Here is the video of that show. Enjoy!
Bruce seems full of energy, and great ideas, eh? :-)
Bruce showed how to throw a dinner party with items purchased in one day of "garage saling."
He accomplished this feat by 'unifying' the look through color. Everything was red, white or
blue, as suited the occasion of Memorial Day Weekend.
In this clever way, he got old metal porch chairs painted in Red to blend well with french cafe style chairs painted blue; and a myriad of random items of individual interest. Accent items on
white table cloths were also red, white, or blue. Even a casual rug was there to "pull it all together!"
This utilized a method in design that dictates presenting similar items/same colors at
three levels:
1) Eye level or above...i.e. a fireplace mantle,
2) Slightly below eye level...i.e. a table,
3) And, waaay below eye level...i.e. floor.
Also, he handled himself really well while being 'interviewed' on a street full of screaming
spectators. The hair guy from the show "Shear Genius" didn't fare so well. Its hard to
focus on anything with all those folks yelling. But Bruce did, throwing in fun humor in the
process....
SOOOO, he rates a big "10" stars on this part of the review!!
