Pelosi Unveils House Health Care Bill
Excerpt below and link
"The House speaker, Nancy Pelosi of California, on Thursday unveiled a $894 billion health care package that would provide insurance to up to 36 million people by broadly expanding Medicaid, the state-federal insurance program for the poor, and by offering subsidies to moderate-income Americans to buy insurance either from private carriers or a new government-run plan.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill would reduce future federal deficits by about $30 million over the next 10 years, meeting President Obama’s demand that the health legislation not add “one dime” to the nation’s indebtedness.
At a rally to unveil the bill, Ms. Pelosi said: “This an historic moment for our nation and families. For nearly a century, leaders of every party and political philosophy have fought for health insurance reform.”

She stated it would NOT add ANYTHING to the nation's indebtedness.
I had an email this AM from a dear friend inAustralia--her adult son is on what she called a 'long list' for medical care for an injured foot. This is what I am concerned about.
Plus, when I look at what Medicare pays to the Drs for some of my bills, I know why Drs are refusing to take on new Medicare patients.
We need health reform, but it's got to be good for all. I don't understand why we can't have the same health insurance as Congress--it it's good enough for them, shouldn't it be good enough for all of us?
She could not explain where does come from though...
Yeah I believe Pelosi like I believe a conman is just misunderstood...
Re: Payments to doctors. Yes. It is tough. My husband is a psychologist and ...
listening to Sam Tanenhaus on Charlie Rose last night discussing his new book, The Death of Conservatism(link is a Newsweek review)... he made the point that Obama is actually a moderate conservative by the traditional definitions, (and the neocons are nutz but we knew that)...
Passing a surtax is relatively easy, making it STICK against people with that kind of clout id near impossible.
I've been saying stuff like this for years. By the post WWII definition, most Democrats today would have been moderate Republicans back then.
I think he needs to drop the gun retriction idea completely, though. He tries to think of something reasonable, though.
There are millions of people who've paid into the system for decades, only to lose their jobs and have no insurance and need to rely on Medicaid.
At some point, we ALL need government help.
Trust me Kathryn, it will end up costing you far more than you can even imagine right now. You are younger than I am--you will probably not even have Medicare when you retire, you will be at the mercy of taxpayers, and we are having fewer and fewer of them.
Either reduce medicare to consumers, charge consumers (seniors) more, reduce payments to docs, or increase taxes or find another way.
Medicare is not going broke in 4 years.
Do you remember - I am sure you do - because I was 21 - when it was first publicsed that Social Security was not a wash? People were frightened into believing it would be broke within a few years or within 10.
This was 1973.
There are ways in the government to shift money around to pay for expenses.
And that is what they do.
My generation, unlike people born in the 20s and a certain extent, people born in the 30s, will never get as many benefits as my parents' generation.
My FIL worked and had 3 work pensions, plus VA, plus SS. He never made much money.
But. He could retire very well.
I will be working till the day I die. The whole 'retirement' concept is a bad one; people are happier, healthier and more productive as long as they can work at something.
Fortunately, i am self employed as a writer, so as long as people will publish what I write...
but of course, if someone has not contributed enough to SS in terms of years working full time, they get nothing.
And if someone contributes a huge amount, like my father, they will not get that same proportion back. it is capped.
and the ratio of what we will get based on those mailings from the SSA change.
They are planning to tax the upper middle income bussinesses, which means they will have to struggle to make ends meet, thus lay off more people, increasing the unemployment, and reducing the amount of taxes the Government will pull in. No one has the money to keep paying increased expenses, so why force them up, unless it is as some people have suggested.
Increase the amount of unemployment, increase expenses, and you can take over a country like the US without a shot. We are seeing that in operation now. THe Obama criminal band and their friends are in a full blown coup.
i am not counting on anything, personally. I am just trying to work - write - until I drop. Hopefully, not for another 30 years. Gotta go for a quick run. Swam last night, will swim 2 x a week. 58 and counting. Gotta make it good. :)
It's one of the few things I could find to sincerely thank him for, McCauley, and now you've gone and spoiled it.
So, tell me, where does the "accountabilty" go when the Republicans leave the White House? Where does the white go when the snow melts?
I told both my Senators, without a hint of sarcasm, not to come home without a public option. 70% of America wants it, 73% of American doctors want it, and the Democrats own Congress. There is simply no excuse.
And I told President Obama, if they dare give him a bill without a public option, that I hope he vetoes it.
There talking a lot more about Hillary over in Pakistan.
She is out of her mind.
I do not even know what to root for because it changes every day. But still, it needs changing.
