I developed a severe case of insomnia and started to take the drug Ambien which at first was quite successful.
Problem:
I would get up in the morning and found I had bought something on Ebay. I'd get the congratulations email.
I bought a doll for $125. and a Furby for $60.00
I bought other things, many other things, but those were the two most expensive. I would be upset, but knew I had done it, as I really wanted the things I bought but in a concious state had the sense to know I wouldn't waste my money like that.
Then, I heard on the news of people with anmnesia, and shopping, and sleep walking.
Then one night, while showering, I told my husband that my head hurt. He said, you got cold conked last night. I found you under the desk and you were unconscious, so I picked you up and put you to bed. (I know, not good.)
He was getting annoyed at my spending and threatened to lock down the computer. That was fine with me. Finally, I went to the doctor and he told me that my symptoms, such as amnesia, and buying, and passing out, were all symptoms of Ambien.
I don't take it anymore, but if you do, please be aware of the these and other possible side effects of this drug.

wow....heard of those things but never knew anyone to whom it happened.....
Glad to see yiou here A bit better?
Yes they can do that or help When my partner died I took them for about a month lucky me I was fine
wow that is some scary stuff... i am glad you are off of it.
Thanks kindly for the warning.
I take Ambien and have been a tad forgetful, but nothing as scary as you described. It can be freaky, the knowing that you probably did something, but not remembering a darn thing about it.
I wonder if my husband takes this? I also wonder if it contains an ingredient that occurs naturally in some people's bodies. My husband is an ebay junky monkey. A shopaholic. An impulse buyer. I haven't seen him passed out, but he does have selective memory.
I'm not making light of your situation. I'm glad you figured out what was happening to you. Thanks for posting this because I know several people who take sleep aids.
That is so frightening! I had considered them since my insomnia is pretty bad but I think I will have to pass on trying them.
Eeeek.
I don't trust pills.
Ever since I read about what happened to Judy Garland (and that was a long while ago).
That is totally freaky! Good thing that you were able to figure out the cause and stop it immediately, and that you are able to warn everyone else of this hazard. Medications can be a good thing but they can be equally as bad sometimes.
They advertise Rx drugs on TV and tell people about horrible side effects and they still take the meds, I guess they don't think it will happen to them
Ya like the toe nail fungus rx, it'll kill the fungus and you ahve beautiful toe nails but it could damage your liver and kidneys. I will put up with my ugly toe nails lol.
I saw in a documentry on Ambien that an artist would paint while sleeping, another lady cooked, and that kennedy who hit got in an accident a couple years back blamed ambien. They even put that in their warnings on their ads now, lol.
wow i take that scary i am going to stop
We have been fortunate not to experience anything too nasty yet with my husband and Ambien. We've heard of really scary stories on the News though... People driving themselves to work in the middle of the night, ect.
My husband does do more than sleep walk. He'll sleep cook. He gets up in the middle of the night and starts cooking himself food. He'll eat it and everything and not remember the next morning.
I was prescribed Ambien 10 years ago. I would wake up and write in my journal for hours. Unfortunately I was also taking Paxil at the time. Had a bad reaction to it but did not understand that my thinking was getting to be warped. Combine the two drugs and I set out to drive my car into a tree one night. Luckily I hit a wooden fence instead. Glad you figured out you were experiencing side effects before things really got out of control.
I've heard about the side effects....and I was wondering....
Glad you realized it fairly quickly though.
That's certainly not good. My husband took that for a while, but he didn't experience that.
You are 100% correct. I had the same experience on it, I was doing stuff and had no recollection, making phone calls at 3am, never bought anything, but when I started to see that I was very active and just didn't remember any of it, and realized it actually was not helping me sleep at all - I stopped taking it. There should be more warnings on things like that.
THANKS FOR SHARING,, I have never taken anything to make me sleep at night, If I can;t sleep at night, I just hope I can sleep the next night.
