I have a severe calcium deficiency due to anticoagulant use for 30 years. Has anyone had a hard time taking Calcium? I am so tired I cannot stand myself. I am taking 500 twice a day. I cannot find any information on the two together. Apparently not much research has been done.
Anyone?

My wife takes it and has for years. She has no problems. The D helps the calcium be absorbed. She has the beginnings of osteoporosis and needs it.
Hmm, I have heard that Vitamen D does help with calcium absorption. However, I have also heard that many of those supplements are actually in forms that your body CANNOT USE. Like the calcium in TUMS just gets flushed out of your system. Now I am not sure about Caltrate... but I am skeptical of it for that reason.
Have you tried including more calcium rich foods in your diet? There are plenty of sources of it other then dairy products. I think Kale is a good veggie with calcium... there are some fruits... I think - of course I can't recall off the top of my head.
I wish you the best.. {{HUGS}}
Wish I cold tell you.
Sorry, I don't really have any answers either. But it is true that many of the over-the-counter supplements are not easily absorbed by the body, and we don't end up getting nearly as much as we think from them. Check with a nutritionist or a dietician, maybe you can get a pharmaceutical grade version.

Yes. I take both together - one without the other is not a good thnig.
I have no idea. Sorrrrreeeeee.
You need D to properly use your calcium. In summer, and in sunny climates, you can get enough D if you're getting 20 minutes outside a day. People in cloudier climates have more trouble. Apparently we're having a bit of an epidemic of D deficiency here in the northwest. My son and I were allergic to cow milk so I wasn't buying any, and that's one source of Vitamin D, as it's added to it. He had a pretty several problem with his calcium level because of it. His body wasn't able to process the calcium he had because of no D, and it ended up stripping calcium out of his bones and teeth trying to compensate. When he started having physical symptoms and they started running tests, I put him on a multivitamin and focused on calcium rich foods in his diet and he recovered.
Here's a Vitamin D factsheet from the National Institutes of Health.
*several should be severe, sorry.
I take a multivitamin every day.
I have tried three times to take calcium substitutes and D. I alwasy have a lot of problems with it. The Dr. told me to take Tums. I have no problem with that. Go nutrition and sunlight helps. sorry, that's all I know. I hope you find a solution, soon.

The Doc. told my mother to take calcium and magnesium together, as for the Vitamin D be careful to take as your Doc. has told you too. You might ask your Doc. to give you something else (i.e. mycalcin(Sp?) this is taken through the nose (nasal spray) that is very good (but may not work in your case) . When taking cal.-mag. bran is a good thing too eat more of, as the combination of the cal.-mag. can bind you up. You should talk to your Doc. to get the right combination of things you need. I hope things work out for you soon.
I do and it makes me sick.
i always take vitamins
Thank you everyone for your advice, I appreciate it!
