Give the baby a bleach bath?

That's right.  One of my five granddaughters has eczema.  Mom took her to the doctor when her tiny feet started to bleed.  The doctor told her to bath her once every two weeks with a cup of bleach in a full tub of water to kill any bacteria.  To say I was shocked, but it is working.  Don't do this without the doctor telling you so.  This was a dermatologist, but it is clearing up her skin.  She is very clean, but now she's spotless.  Did you ever?

I have heard this before.
Someone even told me vinegar.
But I know the melaleuca sells stuff for that and I have heard it works wonders. But you gott find someone who sells that brand.
I never heard of taking a bleach bath, but considering the possible causes of eczema, I'm not suprised it works.

I'm very shocked to say the least.
I would have thought that bleach was a bit too dangerous to use on the skin.

My sister daughter has had eczema for years. She was never told to use bleach..Vinegar yes. One reason is babies like to drink bath water. They don't know any better. Vinegar won't hurt them and is more safe with the same type of results.

OH MY!! I don't know if I could ever do that to my baby. Even with doc's permission. It just sounds awful... I'm sure it's safer than I think but goodness...

excema is a strange thing...different things work for different people. My son had excema very bad, but we never went to a dermatologist Taking him off of milk and using pure shea butter worked the best for him.

wow - i remember once I got a crazy rash out of nowhere and a derm told me to use some household remedy of hot compresses with some basic ingredient I have forgotten and I thought he was nuts and was all irritated to not come out of their with a cortisone cream script - but it actually worked within a day.

It's always great to relieve symptoms but it sure is better to remove the cause. I hope one day it just won't come back.

never heard of that, but as long as she doesn't get it in eyes or mouth, I really don't see the problem...I have washed my hands with bleach before caring for my mother in law (she had an infection after her surgery_)

I guess its because they're young so they wouldn't be at risk for drinking it...does sound strange though.

Never heard of this before but each case responds to different treatments. I can't touch bleach without having a flare up.

My son was told to do that for his eczema also....actually, to make sure strep didn't set in... swimming in a chloronated pool will help too.

I haven't heard of bleach being used for eczema, although I did use it when I had a sever outbreak of posion ivy. The bleach dries the infection. I hope her eczema doesn't come back.

Anyone who bathes with city water is bathing in bleach, so it shouldn't hurt her. It works.

My son has eczema and his pediatrician said he'd outgrow it. It covered his entire body, I went back and saw a NP who gave him elidel (?)and it cleared him up in two days. She also said to use Aveeno lotion and soaps, and to use unscented everything (detergent, wipes, etc). I don't think I would use bleach even if it was recommended although my brother-in-law used it for poison ivy...
