With the price of nearly everything sky rocketing, it is becoming increasingly difficult to pay for prescription medications. I have noted that many people are cutting back on their prescription medication. For example, I know a man who was supposed to be taking one pill three times a day. This was in addition to many other pills. Well he could not afford them so he cut down the amount to 2 pills a day. He was only able to afford a 10 day supply of each of his medicines.
I heard an elderly lady talking while I was at the Doctor the other day. She said that she has cut her pills to one every other day. She was supposed to be taking one a day. I suggested to her that she ask her Doctor to give her samples or change her medication to one that is only $4.00 at walmart or sams club. She was not aware of the walmart or sams club $4.00 list. The nearest walmart is an hour drive away so many elderly cannot stand the long trip.
These were just a few of the cases that I know about. How is anyone expected to pay for Prescription drugs? For many people, on January 1 of this year, their deductible and copay has increased. Even with insurance, For many the copay is expensive.
There are many programs out there to help but it is a lot of trouble to apply and then to receive the meds that are needed. Many elderly do not have a computer or Internet to search for these programs. Is this what our great country supposed to be like? Are we not supposed to be looking out for our own citizens before we send much needed money overseas?
I know we cant see that everyone is helped but we can help some of them. There is a site online that is a one stop for all programs that help with medication costs. You can apply no matter what your income is. This site is easy to maneuver through. The first thing you will need to do is your medicine. You will need these so you can find out which program is the best for you.
The Partnership For Prescription Assistance (PPARX) brings all of America's pharmaceutical companies, Doctors and other health care providers including patient advocacy organizations together in one place. This sites purpose is to get the medicines that people need through the public or private program that is right for them.
There are more than 180 programs offered by pharmaceutical companies. You can also access the Partnership For Prescription Assistance by phone, toll free, 1-888-4PPA-NoW (1-888-477-2669)
If you have loved ones who needs some help, please pass this information on to them. All they have to do is answer some simple questions. Lets pull together and help those who are having problems paying for their medications.

Check out the link above.
I have a few friends that could use this info for their elderly parents who can't afford their medicines. :)
I would love to know just how much the companies make on these drugs.
Some of these companies will help with medication no matter what their income is
I sure hope so. I know how much medicine costs.
My thoughts exactly.
For people without insurance coverage for prescriptions, a national plan is needed now.
I think there are a lot of us who think this way but there does not seem to be anything that we can do about it. We can only do the best we can and hope that at least one person is helped. Looks like we are going to have to do it because the government does not seem to care
Our insurance company also requires mail in for a three month supply but they will only pay so much of it. It is still expensive.
Sharon,
Thanks for the information. I did not know about Giant Eagle.
We did try to pick up baby Zantac at Walgreens a couple weeks ago and were told that it was $43! I was appalled. Sorry, but I'll wait in a three-hour-long line for a prescription if it will save me $43.
Winn Dixie also offers the $4 meds.
I am glad you get your medications for free. I am always saying that out military men and women deserve so much more than they get.
Just because your current medications aren't on the list doesn't mean that you can't ask the doctor if anything can be changed.
Just an idea.
I had to go visit the Doctor on Monday. I took the walmart list and showed it to my Dr to see if he could change my prescriptions to ones that was on the list. I was surprised, my nebulizer medication was on the list. saved me a fortune
The truly sad thing is that there are many people in your situation. We are sending millions of dollars overseas and our own people are doing without. Where is the fairness to that?
Great discussion, Connie.

I am glad that you can get your meds on base. I dont think our military are getting the respect and support that they deserve. It is nice to hear you can at least get meds
I've been waiting patiently (about 4-5 years now) for the patent to run out so that I can get a generic version. I think the patent times should be shorter and I also think they should be a set amount of time for all drugs. Right now patents length "depends" on the drug.
