Knee Surgery

This is my first attempt to write an article. At the age of 68 I find myself in need of reconstruction surgery on both knees. I have  decided to get the right one done first. I live alone so am not looking forward to having this done.  I have some  really good friends who will take care of my needs.  I would like to hear from people who have had this done who can give me some pointers,or tips on do's and don'ts.   Thanks.

my last mother-in-law had knee surgery when she was 69 years of age.... she kept a positive attitude and recovered fast, not saying it wasn't painful at times, but I do believe that your attitude going into this ordeal will have much impact on your recovery. When my grandma had this done years ago, she was really happy she did. She didn't like going through the recovery part. But her right knee felt so much better a year later she had the left one done.

I am not looking forward to the recovery part either,but I know no pain no gain. I have to Have the left one done also, but that will come later. Thanks Nanina

wow when are you have this done, It would be cool if you kept a gather diary one it so those who may have it done will know what to expect. the manager where my daughter works had it done and he said he was happy with the results

thanks Angela, I will be having it done on July 31st next Tuesday 3 day hospital stay and then 7 day or more in rehab for therpy. That is a good idea i will try and keep notes for a article.

If you can do some of the rehab in a pool....I was told by an extended family member that it really helped. Non weight bearing movement feels better.

Thanks so much terry. The time is getting close. I don't if the hospital rehab has a pool. I don' know any one with a pool

I will be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers. My mother had the surgery and was on her feet the same day. She was so happy with the results. That was over 30 years ago. Today knee replacement is a common surgery and a great success. I think all of us Gatherites wish you "Good speed" as you fly through the recovery period and learn to enjoy your legs again.

Mary - my mother had a knee replaced when she was in her 70s. Part of her therapy afterwards was to climb stairs because she lived alone in a second story apartment. The Doctor was a specialist, the surgery went smoothly and she was up and walking almost immediately. I wish you as speedy a recovery!
I know a couple of ladies who had it done last year and they are loving the new freedom they have being able to walk without all the pain,,lots of physical therapy afterwards though.

Thank you all for your comments. I will be having sugery tomorrow at noon .It was suppose to be 7;45 in the am but they called a little while ago and changed the time.I sent out an article this am but don't know how to put tags on it so have know idea where it went.

Thanks Marilyn, It will not come back I tried what you said but Nothing happened. this article didn't have any tags on it and it appeared someplace. So that one probably will to. Thanks for your interest, And I will be back on in a couple of weeks .Should only be in rehap a week or so. Now its time for bed if I can sleep.
