March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. It’s the perfect time for people to switch to a vegetarian diet. Expertswith the American Cancer Society (ACS), the European Prospective Investigation of Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC), and other health organizations have reported that meat causes colorectal cancer. According to the ACS Web site, “A diet high in fat, especially fat from animal sources, can increase the risk of colorectal cancer. Over time, eating a lot of red meats and processed meats can increase colorectal cancer risk.” The National Cancer Institute states that “colorectal cancer seems to be associated with diets that are high in fat and calories and low in fiber,” and an EPIC study, which involved more than half a million people from ten European countries, revealed that a diet high in fiber can help reduce your risk of colorectal cancer. Meat and dairy products have no fiber, and plenty of fat, calories, and cholesterol; even “low fat” dairy products are packed with fat and cholesterol, relative to fruits, vegetables, and grains. So consider commemorating National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month by eating a healthy, humane plant-based diet. Recipes and product suggestions can be found on www.VegCooking.com.

People just overdo things. My grandmother used to say "moderation in all things" and I think it's totally accurate. Eating a lot of meat or a diet based mostly on meat is what is problematic, not eating the occasional piece of beef.
