A Simple Solution To The Pirate Problem

Just a few basic thoughts on this matter.

Merchant Marines- what does that sound like for you?

All ships should have emergency self defense- in a locked room aboard ship.

This is not new.

All seamen from the USA should subscribe to basic self defense training- Hell hire a out of work or even a homeless Vet!

There are thousands of battle tested guys that are willing to get a job aboard a merchant ship and work on our merchant ships and safeguard their cargos.

Merchant Mariners sounds more like what has become of a ship on the high seas.

If a few crew would have been armed and with basic combat training this would rarely happen.

PT boats the famous PT109 type vessels could be incorporated to patrol the shores of Somalia.

The company that runs these ships have enboldened these people with ransoms and pay offs.

They should provide protection on board that can defend themselves if needed.

This sound like a basic way to deal with the problem?

If we can have US Marshalls on flights and everyone on Gods Eaths seems to be carrying guns now a days ie our borders and the NRA etc.Then surely there can be weapons aboard all Merchant Ships on the High Seas.
It is workable.
It is complex only for simple minds.

No, joel, it's only simple for simple minds.

Are there US Marshalls on every flight?

Do you have any idea of the size of the area in the India Ocean alone where we'd have to patrol?

Do you have any idea what training it would take, and how long it would take, to train over a million sailors?

Do you have any idea about the complexities of international law, or the rules of engagement?

Do you know anything about weapons or maintenance?

Yes I do and I know four crew trained with simple weapons that you can purchase at any sporting goods store could easily stop these African Pirates- It takes training your crew and I am sure the amount of Marshalls on flights depends on who is on these flights?
