Prince of the Sky
©2005, Basil Sands
The day drags on,
moving in rhythmic motion
ticking like the hands of an office clock
waiting for the end to come.
I look out my window towards the sky
And suddenly, unexpectedly
My body leaps forward
Through the glass, into open air
Flying at high speed I race toward the clouds
Billowing in the distance they loom larger and larger
I burst through them, the mist cool on my face
As I fly on to the Kingdom of the Sky
Where my throne awaits upon mountains of white
The laws of nature seem to lose their hold
As I stand on the foaming sea of cottony cloud
Now solid beneath my feet
The Kingdom of the Sky stretches before me
Vast cities of mist,
Rolling white oceans
Great cumulonimbus towers bursting forth from the top of the sky
And I look down from my perch upon the great throne
From the mountain of thunder,
Atop the store houses of rain and snow
To the world far beneath
It is not fit for the Prince of the Sky to sit alone on his throne
Beckoning to the lightning I dispatch the winds to fetch my Princess
"Come forth beautiful one!
Come and ride the clouds with me!
Sit upon the throne and take in the majesty of the skies!"
Up she rises
Dressed in white as pure as the snow
Long dark hair flowing across golden skin
Deep dark eyes glowing rapturously
Pleasure and excitement radiate from her face
She comes to light on her throne next to mine
We two hand in hand
Viewing the vast domain of our kingdom
Suspended in the skies to view everything we have been granted
Singing Angels burst forth in rhythmic tones
But their song seems strange,
Out of place is their tune
Flat…..unharmonic
It is not singing…
No…it is ringing….
Jolted from my throne by this ringing….
Oh….it's the phone….my desk
My office….
The clock is still ticking
And the clouds float by the windows
But that cloud….the long, elegant looking one
Does remind me of my princess…
I guess I'd better answer that phone
