Musab-Slicks Box CD:
Generally when I’m writing an album review I tend to not really talk too much about the artist personally. I generally keep a strict focus on the music and lyrics. I suppose that is unintentionally intentionally if you know what I mean…ha. Anyway, in the case of Musab, who and how he is makes up a big part of what I like about the music. I have to be honest this is one cool and smooth dude. Seriously. I have seen the man in all sorts of situations and no matter the case he handles it with pretty much the same relaxed demeanor. I find that not to be an easy task. Much can be learned from such calmness and restraint. This could be a better world if we all stopped before reacting and thought, “How would Musab handle this?”…ha. My point in all that is that these same characteristics carry over into his music making process. He is able to cover an array of heavy topics with seemingly effortlessness, but with no lack of passion. He has no problem showing his most “human” sides. By that I mean he rhymes about his wants but recognizes the flaws in them. He rhymes about his concerns with the flaws in society, but admits that he contributes to them. Some might find that to be hypocritical. I however find it uncommonly honest and overtly human and that I can appreciate. Flashing back to his smooth demeanor, I must admit that he is able to make me overlook some of his views and comments that I generally frown on MCs (and humans in general) for. It’s not that I agree or accept them in the case of Musab, but he is just able to dress it up and deliver it with enough elegant swagger that it seems harmless. Perhaps that’s even more dangerous…ha…but I can’t do deny that it sounds good.
Speaking of sounding good, the production is handled by King Karnov. He’s a relatively new name in the realm of production, but I think it’s a name you are soon to become more familiar with. Point blank he is a great producer. He knows how to do all the right things when making beats. They sound clean and they have enough variety to keep you interested. Most of the samples won’t sound familiar to the common listener but he’s not afraid to grab a classic and/or familiar break and flip his own interpretation of how it should be done.
I know I haven't given you too many specifics about the actual album content and I have to admit I hate when album reviews do that...if you do to, sorry. However, this time I have chosen to let you know more about the man himself and let the music speak on it's own. Step one is complete, step two awaits you.... In simpliest terms, this is a very good record, you should be listening….
