THE UPDATE/OFFICIAL BLOG LAUNCH
Promises, Promises...I generally don’t make them because I prefer to be recognized as someone who doesn’t break them. However, I did “promise” that I would update/relaunch this Redefinition Blog “soon”....well I suppose “soon” is all up to interpretation and so here you go, “promise” kept and my character still in tact.
Well, I imagine to most of you this is the “launch” because I never really promoted this blog much because I wanted to make sure I had it together before I went telling “the world” about it. I have been “boasting” to people that I wanted to have so much information here that by the time it launched no one would ever be able to read it all and that way I would never fall behind. Hopefully, I didn’t really mean that because that is a rather moronic theory I can now admit....ha. Anyway, things didn’t go quite as planned
To get you up to speed, sometime last year during the Summer my schedule went completely bonkers with Scribble Jam, Summer Vacation(s) with my Daughter, and things of the sort. That was the start of falling behind with the blog. From there all the other things I fell behind on had to get caught up and this kept getting put on the back burner until I was finally so far behind it seemed futile so I couldn’t stand to think about it....ha.
Finally I got up the nerve to start writing again and I wanted to come back stronger, more detailed and in depth than ever. That of course has taken time, but here we are. I’ve come up with a few ideas for how to get caught up, stay consistent, and add some new dimensions to the page.
First, I’m going to throw up a couple more random entries real soon that are both about ½ done and from there I’m only going to write about the theme shows that I have done; Hip Hops Top Lyrcists, Hip Hops Most Slept On Lyricists, History of The Posse Cut, 2006 Year End Special, and The James Brown Tribute. However, I did keep record of all the artists/songs that I would generally have wrote about from the shows we are skipping and so I’ll make sure to cover them in some way in the future.
Secondly, I’m going to include some new additions to the page. I will soon add interviews (Count Coolout, Mele Mel, & The Poetess are first up), the “Background Check” section (personal stories about me on my Hip Hop travels....), possibly some new music charts, and a few other ideas that I’m still letting incubate in the brain-piece.
Finally, I just want to say that I don’t really claim to be a “journalistic specialist”, although I’ve been writing “professionally” off-n-on since 1993. I have always done it and continue to do it because I find it entertaining and a great stress outlet for myself to have fun with. I do have aspirations to take on more fine tuned writing projects in the future but in here I just “let it flow” so to speak. I don’t think about structure or limitations. With that said, there is a lot of information here! Part of the reason is I’m an extremist with a flair for the dramatic...ha, no seriously. The other part is in writing about a lot of these artists I would do “google searches” and next to nothing helpful would come up besides some site trying to sell me their CD or LP which I already got. Now at least if anyone does a random search for any variety of unsung Hip Hop heroes it’s possible because of this blog something worthwhile, entertaining, interesting and/or useful might come up. If not then I have wasted a fair amount of my 36th year of life....I suppose there are worse fates.
Anyway, enough of the boring stuff let’s talk rap...enjoy!
